Guest Blog and Giveaway with Debbie Peterson

The Muse
One of the more common questions asked is—where do the ideas for my stories come from? What serves as my muse? I’ve given that a lot of thought and for me, there’s no one thing in particular. Sometimes a simple phrase, a song, a painting, or even an element from one of the world’s great storehouse of mythological tales can catch my imagination at any given time. And once something takes hold, a “But what if…” will usually occur.
So, in regards to Spirit of the Rebellion.
The month was October and Halloween was quickly approaching. I happened across a calendar that featured a picture of an old southern church, shrouded in mist, with a large full moon overhead. The place looked haunted—or at least it did to me. So, who would haunt a church and why?
I could see the spirit of a Civil War soldier inside that structure. But that would also mean he didn’t die in battle—he died because of something that happened inside that church. He must have died violently…and…at the hands of someone he trusted. Our ghostly hero (let’s make him a union captain from the famed Wisconsin 15th regiment) wouldn’t have died alone, though. No. He took his murderer with him on that fateful day. That yielded two ghosts…one good…one evil. But then they both wouldn’t haunt the church. So, let’s add an antebellum mansion in Tennessee, wherein our Captain could dwell.
I had my foundation. From there I just needed to do a ton of research, add a recurring nightmare, a dose of mystery, and a lovely Norse historian to the story. I invite you to come along as we send Shae Lynn Montgomery and the ghost of Captain Tristan Jordahl on a quest for answers, redemption, and their own happily ever after.

Spirit of Rebellion
By Deborah K Peterson

Blurb: Souls touch and emotions flare when a historian and an embittered spirit form an unlikely alliance to investigate the centuries-old riddle surrounding his death…

Ready for a fresh chapter in her life, Shae Lynn Montgomery accepts a job translating a cache of Civil War documents from Wisconsin’s famous Norwegian regiment. The assignment takes her to Chickamauga’s haunted Starling Plantation and face-to-face with a handsome captain—its angry ghost in residence.

Tristan Jordahl, falsely accused of treason, has no use for the living—not even the lovely translator invading his home. Despite Tristan’s best efforts to frighten her, Shae Lynn refuses to leave, and reluctantly, Tristan enlists her help to clear his name.

But as they grow closer to the truth—and to each other—an evil spirit makes it clear he will do anything to stop them. Can a love that transcends time overcome all obstacles?
