Interview with Kathleen Allen

Hello Kathleen, welcome to the Creatively Green Write at Home Mom. Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I write in different genres in my own name but mostly in YA fantasy. I always put an element of mystery into each book though so I decided to write a mystery series. I’ve been writing since I was eight years old although my family says I was three when I wrote my first poem. It was probably about a cat.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

IF IT’S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TROUBLE is the second Mel Thompson, P.I. book. Mel is a former cop who was shot on the job and now has a permanent limp and works as a P.I. Last case she nearly died at the hands of a killer, this time she’s being more cautious. She goes undercover in a fashion house to find the killer of an up and coming fashion designer. She doesn’t plan on being in harm’s way again. But, that’s exactly what happens.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I am a geek. I love Joss Whedon and am a big fan of Firefly and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and well, The Avengers.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

I watch all the singing competition shows like The Voice, X-Factor and American Idol. I also watch Dance Mom’s.

Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?

Harry Potter, of course.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book?
Any details you can share?

I haven’t started the next book yet but I have a tentative title. IF IT’S WEDNESDAY, IT MUST BE WICKED or maybe I’ll use WILD instead. LOL. The plan is to write all seven days of the week and yes, I totally took this idea from Sue Grafton’s A is for Alibi series.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

My second young adult faerie book, WAR OF FEI in the Lore of Fei series is due to be released Feb. 2013. I just saw the cover of it yesterday and I love it! The cover artist, Nika Dixon, is wonderful.

I wrote a 50,000 novel for NaNoWriMo (30 days and nights of literary abandon) during this past month and I am in the process of editing it. It’s a young adult urban fantasy with angels and demons in it.

What book are you reading now?

Shadow of Night-Deborah Harkness

What is in your to read pile?

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare-YA fantasy.
Written in Stone by Ellery Adams-mystery
A Chili Death by Jessica Beck-mystery
Arsenic and Old Cake by Jacklyn Brady-mystery
Roast Mortem by Cleo Coyle-mystery
Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey-YA fantasy

IF IT’S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TROUBLE!
Mel Thompson Series Book Two
By Kathleen Allen

Mel Thompson, P.I., former cop returns in her second murder case. It’s the first case she’s taken since she almost died at the hands of the murderer from her last case, three months ago.

Things are looking up a bit though, her cop boyfriend moved back in, the back surgery she had seems to have dulled the pain in her leg and she’s working as an intern in a fashion house in order to catch a murderer.

The fashion world is an alien one to Mel but she’s eager to learn in order to figure out who killed an up and coming designer who just happened to be the sister of the senior buyer.  Mel plans on being an intern for a few weeks, getting the information she needs and getting out.

She didn’t plan on actually liking the people in the fashion house. And she didn’t plan on being in harm’s way, again.

About the Author:
I am an urban faerie born without wings but I fly on the wings of imagination tethered to this mortal coil. Moonlight sustains me and sunlight devours me. Stars swim in my eyes and my soul bleeds on a daily basis. I am a writer.
