Guest Blog and Giveaway with Author and Artist Victoria Danann

Wenona asked me to talk a little about my art. Let me say first that I'm an author who happens to be an artist and not the other way around. The whole art thing started in 2000 when I needed a cover for the Seasons of the Witch and wasn't happy with anything being shown to me. I finally decided to do it myself. I had never painted and never had much interest, but I had a goal. The 2001 cover was the first thing I ever painted. It was entitled 'The Queen of Wands'.

Subsequently I gave up paints in favor of graphic arts and for many years produced a series of conical hat witches that came to be known as my "signature". A few of them are available as prints from the 7th House online art gallery. This one was entitled 'Ruffling Feathers'.

I also did a series of fantasies which, in many ways, were my favorites. This one is entitled 'A Walk in the Middle Kingdom'.

I also produced a variety of tarot cards, but never finished the deck because the lure of writing fiction is stronger for me.

I still illustrate Seasons of the Witch every year, but especially value these skills when it's time to produce a cover for one of my books. Being able to make my own art decisions is one of the things I love about being an Indie. I also produce my own book trailers. Even though not everyone who reads the books sees them, they're still satisfying to put out.

Right now I'm working on the third book of The Order of the Black Swan series.

The second will be released October 14 and the third is scheduled to release February 14.

Let me take the opportunity to invite your readers to the VirtualRelease Day Party on Facebook.

Book Description:

Minutes ahead of inevitable assassination, Elora Laiken is forcibly transported to an alternate dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She is stranded. Alone. Far from home. A stranger in a "strangish" land.

Of course a girl could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous suitors. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between an honor debt, true love, or the breathlessness of single-minded passion?

My Familiar Stranger is a full length, stand alone, Paranormal Romance novel that also sets up the foundation for the Black Swan series. It is loved by fans of paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and urban fantasy.

Erotica quotient: A few steamy scenes. No menage. No BDSM.

BOOK TWO. The Witch's Dream. Available in print and e-book on Amazon as of October 14th.
BOOK THREE. The Summoner's Tale. Release Date February 14, 2013.
Author Bio:

For the past thirteen years, Victoria has illustrated and authored Seasons of the Witch calendars and planners.

Though works of fiction are a departure for her, she has had this series simmering on the back burner of her mind for years. In addition to authoring and illustrating Seasons of the Witch, she plays rock music and manages one of Houston's premier R&B/Variety/Pop bands.

This series will include some of my actual experience in the paranormal with fictionalized anecdotes from my journals during the years when I was a practicing "metaphysician", but most of the material is fantasy.

GIVEAWAY QUESTION:

“Since the ancient Greeks, and probably since we became sentient, men have been asking the question, ‘What do women want?’ I think I know what the answer is – at least for a lot of us - and it’s related to why Paranormal Romance is so popular with women and so satisfying to the core in a way no other genre can be. Before I began writing for this audience, I read about two hundred PNR books and realized that there is one element common to almost all and that it can only be expressed in a fantasy world. Can you guess what it is?” (NOTE: You don’t have to match my answer to win. I’m always interested to hear what other PNR fans think.)

The prize is a free download of M.F.S. with Smashwords coupon. Anyone who gives a thoughtful answer wins.

Redemption
By JR Turner

Blurb:

Half-angel Savannah Mantas smells the sulfuric stench of wrath when it enters her city, Iron Point. Resurrected by the archangel Michael, she’s hunting for redemption and half-demon Nico Montenegro is her prey. He comes from the Fringes, the border between the city and the toxic wasteland beyond. When they meet, Nico tells her a story, one of genocide and confiscated bodies. Not revenge, but justice is his purpose and his target is the most admired family in the world–Commander Hathaway and his daughter.

Hathaway’s soldiers are slaughtering Fringers and secretly feeding them to Revenants, mutants who survived the bio-bombing of 2120. They have a twisted idea they can train these clever creatures like dogs and keep them out of the city long enough to mobilize an evacuation for the wealthy and well-connected. Savannah knows better. Revenants are what killed her. When they attack, the last of humankind may be wiped out completely. Stopping Hathaway might just be enough to gain her redemption and escape a hellish fate.

Interview with Agnes Jayne

Thank you for having me and allowing me to share a little bit about my debut novel, The Problem with Power.

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I work as an English instructor at a community college by day. I write literary fiction and poetry, but I’ve only had a few small works published to date.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

The Problem with Power is a paranormal about a young woman, Emily VonPeer, who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her aunt. She is the last surviving member of an ancient family of witches, but the important part of the legacy is that she is left in charge of the family estate, Laurel Grove, an ancient stronghold of magic. As it turns out, a lot of people (and a monster or two)  are very interested in Emily and her fate for their own selfish reasons.

Are you a mom?

I am a mother to a wonderful boy who is about to turn six.

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

I write very early in the morning so that I can concentrate. Sometimes I’ll get up as early as 4 a.m. to work on a story.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

No. I try to respect the boundaries of my friends and family in that way. However, there are certain traits of some of the characters that I see in people I know.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

You should question the institutions that claim to protect you.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

Steph is my personal favorite character in the book. He’s quirky and strange, yet very powerful.

What book are you reading now?

On Writing by Stephen King and The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.

When her aunt's death brings her home to her family's estate in Upstate New York, she meets Nicholas Flynn, an agent of Paladin, an enterprise dedicated to the study and eradication of demons, and the hero of her nighttime fantasies. He arrives on her doorstep seeking answers for a slew of magically-related murders tied to the VonPeer family.

Although his intentions are suspect, Emily follows Nicholas into the investigation, hoping to spare him the fate promised by her premonitions - at least, that's what she tells herself. When their exchange with a demon goes awry, Emily sustains an injury that threatens to turn her into a monster. Her transformation places her in the crosshairs of sorcerers, senators, and a seductive stranger who promises eternity.

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I am Bisi Leyton. I’ve be writing since I was eight and wrote my first novel when I was twelve (it was an unabashed rip off of Sweet Valley High). I stopped writing serious once I got in high school, but twenty years later, I’m back at it.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

My latest book is Wisteria. It is a Young Adult Paranormal romance set three years after England has been overrun by zombies. It tells the story of a sixteen girl, Wisteria who meets Bach, a boy who is immune to the virus and is able to control the infected.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I do all the time. As a rule, I try to include people who’ve had a positive impact on me. Even the villains in my stories are sometimes based somehow around people who I admire in some way.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

My main theme is I believe ordinary people in change the word. For this reason, I want Wisteria to be average. Not the prettiest, fastest, strongest, but the one who won’t back down from a problem (even if she created it).

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Science Fiction romance. I love star trek, the twilight zone and sliders (the list goes on) and would love to do a more sci-fi focused romance, but not sure if or how I will be able to do that.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

This is the first book in the Wisteria Series. The next book is called Mosroc and should be out at the end of October. Not to give a way the end, but we learn a lot more about why Bach is the way he his.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

I am currently writing Wisteria Book Three (not title yet). And putting together some initial outline for the YA Paranormal Romance following it.

But even with well-armed trackers, things go wrong and Wisteria ends up alone facing certain death, until she is rescued by the mysterious Bach. Uninfected, Bach is able to survive among the hordes of living dead.

Eighteen year old Bach, from a race known as The Family, has no interest in human affairs. He was sent here to complete his Great Walk and return home as a man—as a Sen Son. The Family regard humans as Dirt People, but Bach is drawn to this Terran girl, whom he has never seen before, but somehow knows.

Hunted by flesh eaters, cannibals, and the mysterious blood thirsty group called Red Phoenix, Wisteria and Bach make their way back to the Isle of Smythe, a community built on secrets and lies.
