Baby Steps to Being Green Guest Post by Christy Gissendaner

Baby Steps to Being Green
Guest Post by Christy Gissendaner

First off, a big thank you for having me on your blog today. When I first saw the title, I thought “Oh no. I don’t know anything about being green.” Probably my biggest contribution is the fact that I write (and read) e-books instead of traditional print. But as it always seems to happen, life stepped in and knocked me upside the head.
A decidedly non-green approach toward my diet resulted in a long stay at the hospital. It took the threat of surgery to give me just the right kick in the butt to make me start eating healthy. So that’s where I’m at right now. The doctor ordered fruits and veggies, time in the sun, and exercise. Gah!
To a super busy author and mom, not to mention the full-time job, exercise is like a four letter word. But now fate is cracking the whip on me and I must heed the warning. I have no desire to spend so many days in the hospital again.
So ya’ll get to share in my recent project…turning a novice into a green expert. I sorta have an idea of what direction I should head, but let me tell you my plans. Then ya’ll jump in and give your opinion/advice. Sound like a plan? Good. Let’s get started.
1.     Plant a garden – I’ve been saying it for years. Now I’m determined to make it reality. I have all this glorious space in my back yard and I’m not putting it to use. My favorite is tomatoes (late in the season for them I know) but surely not too late to start planning fall veggies, right? What sort of fruits/veggies should I consider?
2.     Get outside more – My life consists of leaving my house, going to my office desk, and then back home to squeeze in a few hours of writing. Needless to say sunlight isn’t part of my daily routine. I’ve decided I need to spend at least one hour per day in the sunlight. Which leads me to…
3.     Take a walk – Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. The bane of my existence. I’m not lazy by any means, but I have such a full plate that there’s never enough hours in the day to get everything done. But I’m going to have to make time to take a walk. Typically a treadmill was my answer, but as the doctor has ordered Vitamin D, why not kill two birds with one stone. (Not literally, of course! I would never kill an animal.)
4.     Take a break – Not everything is on a deadline. I must learn to pace myself so I can stop and enjoy the roses. I mean this quite literally. I can’t remember the last time I’ve smelled a flower. I’m always in such a rush raising my family and handling my career that I forget there’s a big, beautiful world out there.

What do ya’ll think of my list so far? Am I on the right track? And just to prove how serious I am, I’ve even included a link to the first recipe I intend to try when I get out of here. Chocolate chip cookies with avocado instead of butter. Cool, right? Hey, baby steps remember? At least I’m heading in the right direction!

Book Description:

Stupid curse!

Yves Sucat was a Crusader trapped in a canine body…until a beautiful twenty-first century dog groomer offered the missing link to break his spell. But Regina Patterson was no fluffy-headed female who would instantly melt at Yves' silvery seduction. The more time he spent with the tender-hearted blonde, the less he was able to keep his paws—hands!—off of her.

Regina was much more comfortable with dogs than men, and the stunningly handsome – stunningly male – knight who now shared her apartment was no exception. She’d hoped to find a man as loyal as the pooches she pampered day after day, but would Yves’s broken curse end with her own broken heart?
