Interview and Giveaway Neighbors by L.S. Murphy

Thanks so much for having me!

Thanks for being here. Let's get started with the interview-Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

My name is Linda, but I write as L.S. Murphy mainly because nobody uses my first name unless I’m in trouble. J I mostly write romance for both YA and adult readers.

Are you a mom?

Yes. My beautiful daughter is now five and in kindergarten. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see plenty of “Bean-isms” in my timeline. She comes up with some of the most amazing ideas.

Do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Yes, it’s challenging. Writing is time consuming, and it can easily take away time from my family. Bean keeps me on top of things though. She loves to keep me on schedule.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

No. Rena and Riker live in an apartment building much like the first one I lived in when I moved to St. Louis so many years ago, and my husband is a Marine which is how Riker ended up in the Corps. Riker’s unit, 3rd Battalion 24th Marine Regiment H & S Company ( was a real USMC regiment until May of this year. Other than that, Neighbors is just a figment of my imagination.
In Reaper, my YA novel, Quincy was based on ideas and memories from things the popular girls in HS said, but no single person.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I’m incredibly shy and claustrophobic.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

Oh, that’s tough. They all hold a special place in my heart. I love Rena because she’s so independent and has a strength I wish I had. I just finished writing a new adult novel and Carly, my MC, is an interesting one. She’s smart, funny, and has a hard time dealing with her own emotions.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

I’m currently working on a follow up titled Roomies, which is about Rena’s cousin Val moving into the building. She ends up in Josh and Riker’s apartment while Josh is deployed.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?
One More Day, a YA anthology featuring my story “The 13th Month,” will be released in December. I love anthologies! It’s so interesting to see how authors come up with different ideas based on the same theme. In One More Day, the theme is what would you do if time stopped and you were the only person who could restart it.

What book are you reading now?

Beasts of Burdin by Alexander Nader. Definitely, Maybe in Love by Ophelia London

What is in your to read pile?

My TBR list on my Kindle is over 150 right now. And there are about 40 books on my bookshelf waiting to be read as well. My most recent purchases are Out of My Mind and Panic both by Sharon Draper who is an amazing author and an even more amazing person.

He may be on the volcanic side of hot, but his attitude sucks. Riker does whatever he can to get under Rena’s skin.
