Quiz: Which Midnight Fire Series Man is Right for You? Plus a Giveaway

I'm Kaitlyn Davis, the author of the Midnight Fire Series—a whirlwind paranormal adventure with heart-pumping action and heart-stopping romance—and this blog tour is celebrating the release of Scorch, the final book in the series!

Today is the last day of my tour (boo!), but I always try to save something extra special for the end—in my books and my tours :) So far, you've seen interviews, spotlights, reviews, and guest posts featuring scenes told by my two leading men. But today, I've got something completely new—a quiz!

I've always loved taking quizzes, especially about love, so I thought nothing would be more fun than a quiz to decide which of my two leading men would be your perfect match! On the one hand we have the mysterious, brooding Tristan, and on the other we have the goofy, loyal Luke.

Just answer the questions below to find out which Midnight Fire Series man is right for you!

  1. Fess up! Your idea of a perfect first date is…?
    1. A moonlit picnic – so romantic!
    2. A day at the amusement park – lots of opportunities to take ridiculous photographs!
    3. Dinner and a movie – popcorn and superheroes, nothing better!
    4. A play – I love the theater!
  2. What's your favorite book?
    1. Do graphic novels count?
    2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
    3. My history textbook.
    4. The Catcher in the Rye.
  3. My boyfriend wears…?
    1. Jeans and a t-shirt!
    2. Black shirt, dark-wash slacks, and maybe add a leather jacket…
    3. A bathing suit…and nothing else!
    4. As long as he remembers to change out of his pajamas, I'm good!
  4. Aside from love, what does every relationship have to have?
    1. Passion – when we touch it should feel like fire.
    2. Adventure – us against the world!
    3. Dependence – we rely on each other. In sickness and in health, right?
    4. Fun – laughter is my favorite thing in the world!
  5. What's your dream proposal?
    1. He would make a photo album of our favorite memories and ask me to marry him on the last page.
    2. He would write a love song, and ask me to marry him during the chorus :)
    3. He would spell it out in glow-in-the-dark stickers and surprise me right before bedtime!
    4. He would ask for my father's permission and then propose where we shared our first kiss.

You're done! Now figure out which answers correspond to which boy using the key below! L is for Luke, and T is for Tristan.

1) a-T, b-L, c-L, d-T
2) a-L, b-L, c-T, d-T
3) a-L, b-T, c-T, d, L
4) a-T, b-T, c-L, d-L
5) a-L, b-T, c-L, d-T

Mostly L's? Then Luke is your guy! He's your best friend—a goofball who will make you laugh until you can't breath. But behind the jokes, he's strong and fiercely loyal. He would do anything to keep you safe, and he isn't afraid to stand on the sideline to let you shine.

Mostly T's? The Tristan is your guy! He's romantic and passionate—an artist who brings out emotions you never knew you had. He might be keeping secrets, but he's slowly opening up about his dark past and he trusts you like he's never trusted anyone before.

I hope you enjoyed the quiz! Read the Midnight Fire Series to find out if Tristan or Luke really is the guy for you ;)

The Setting of Undercover by Maria Hammarblad

First of all, I want to extend a big warm Thank You for inviting me to the blog. I’m excited to be here!

Parts of my novel Undercover are set in Russia. I haven’t been there, I would love to go and see what it looks like, but thus far I haven’t gotten around to it.

Russia both tempts me and scares me. When I was a little girl growing up in Sweden, the cold war raged (if it is possible for a cold war to rage) and my country attempted to keep a neutral stance in spite of the physical closeness to Soviet. I’m still biased by this, of course. I grew up with news reports keeping a focus on any movement in the East, and with Soviet submarines snooping around our coastline. My imagination ran rampant even back then, and I spent a lot of time wondering what it was really like.

So much has changed in the world during the last few decades, but in my mind, Russia is still a daunting place.  The thinking, reasoning part of my mind knows it isn’t true, but some biases are difficult to remove. I really do need to go there and see it for myself…

Anyway, the hero of Undercover comes from a city in Siberia called Severodvinsk. To me, the name is filled with mystique. Severodvinsk… It could be anything! It is a city, but to me the word could just as well be a treasure, a dragon, or snowy tundra that stretches out in all directions.

The city exists in reality, but probably isn’t much like I describe it. Odds are I made it much gloomier than it is in real life. It has an interesting history, though. The first Soviet submarine was built there, as well as the largest sub in the world. Because of its status as a strategic military site, Severodvinsk used to be closed to foreigners, and its residents weren’t allowed to travel outside the country even after the break up of the Soviet Union.

Book Description:

When Jenny Moore meets Alexei Roshenko, it's love at first sight. The tall, dark and handsome stranger appears to be the answer to every romantic fantasy any woman ever had. There is however more to him than meets the eye, and a dark and violent past is catching up with him. When Jenny decides to follow him back to Russia, she gets entangled in a web of deceit and secrets beyond her wildest imagination.

Author Bio:

Born in Sweden in the early 1970's, Maria showed a large interest for books at an early age. Even before she was able to read or write, she made her mom staple papers together into booklets she filled with drawings of suns and planets. She proudly declared them, "The Sun Book." They were all about the sun. She also claimed, to her mother's horror, that her being on Earth was a big mistake and that her alien family would come and bring her home at any moment. This never happened, but both the interest in space and the passion for bookmaking stayed with her.

As an adult Maria's creativity got an outlet through playing bass in a number of rock bands, and through writing technical manuals and making web pages for various companies and organizations. She did write drafts for a few novels, but the storytelling muse was mostly satisfied through role playing online on Myspace. It was here, while writing stories together with people from around the globe, she stumbled onto Mike. They started talking out of character, and she moved over to Florida to him late 2008. Today the two are married and live in the Tampa Bay area with three rescue dogs.

Besides writing and playing bass, Maria enjoys driving off-road, archery, and Tameshigiri.

Interview with Maer Wilson

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

First, thank you for having me on your blog. I live in the high desert of Southern Nevada and love it here! I have two dogs, who are a constant source of entertainment and who can be quite bossy. I don’t give in, though.

Well, not much. J I co-host MythBehaving, a literary podcast, which is loads of fun and gives me a chance to chat with other authors. Also I feature other writers on my blog and try to keep folks up to date on my own work. I used to be a professional actor, but I retired out years ago and now I teach Theatre at a local college. My “home” genres are Urban Fantasy, Paranormal and Historical Fantasy, for now. I have dipped into a couple Horror short stories, as well. Maer Wilson is my only pen name.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Relics is an Urban Fantasy set in San Francisco. It’s the first book in the series, "The Thulukan Chronicles", which follows detectives Thulu and La Fi as they navigate an Earth forever changed by the return of magic. Their detective agency deals with supernatural clients, the dead, undead and anything else that comes their way. They’re hired by an ancient daemon to find the missing relics he needs to close a dangerous portal.

Are you a mom (or parent)?

Only the pet parent of two dogs. J

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

They might be surprised to find out that I play MMOs and have for about eight years now. I’ve played or tried most of the big games, but I currently play Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2 and I’m eagerly awaiting Wildstar. I write for two gaming fansites, Corellian Run Radio and Wildstar Radio.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

I love crafts although I haven’t had time to play around with anything recently. In the past, I’ve made award winning costumes, done various beading projects on costumes and purses, made dream catchers, played in my different coloring books, crochet, needlepoint, latch hook, whatever strikes me as fun. I also love watching movies. Also I hike, ride my bike and take the one of the dogs for a walk. Not that I have much time for any of that just now. Lately, it’s mostly the treadmill when I remember. J

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

I think I’d like to try sci fi at some point.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

That would have to be La Fi, although I really enjoy creating characters and love all my characters. La Fi, though, is the one who is in my head the most, demanding I tell her story. I’m enjoying how she is evolving as the series goes on.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

This is part of a series called “The Thulukan Chronicles.” The next book is Portals and picks up about a month after the end of Relics. Hmmm…trying not to give away spoilers here. I will say that Thulu, La Fi and Reo cope with the aftermath of events in Relics and Earth continues to react to the return of magic. For the first time, the trio gets to go off-world. Life is a lot more complicated for all of them in Book 2.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

Portals is done and I’m finishing the final editing/revising stages before submission. I’ve also begun Book 3, Crossroads, and I’m excited about getting into that one. I have a Historical Fantasy on the back burner that I’ll get back to after I finish Crossroads. Of course, I also have various short stories, including some in “The Thulukan Chronicles.”

What is in your to read pile?

I have over fifty books in that pile right now and it grows daily. Some of the ones I really want to get to included Blood of Dragons by Robin Hobb, Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza and Taste by Kate Evangelista. And of course, I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin.
Thanks again for letting me share some things with you!

Genre:  Urban Fantasy

Publisher:  Crescent Moon Press
Date of Publication:   5/1/13

Number of pages:  Approx 293
Word Count:   105,000

Book Description:

When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they're nothing like your mother's fairy tales.

Most of Thulu and La Fi's clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. So, a job finding relics for an ancient daemon should be simple.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Stunning humanity with their existence, portals to other worlds begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi's search becomes personal. They'll need powerful allies in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that's what grateful dead, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

After a successful career being other people, and later teaching others the many tricks of that trade, Maer Wilson has decided to be herself for a while.

Turns out she's a writer. She's always loved stories, especially fantasy, mystery and sci fi. Maer was born in the Year of the Dragon and has a dragon-themed room in her home, but sadly no dragons in the back yard.

When she's not writing, Maer plays online video games, teaches college and reads. She also co-hosts the literary podcast, “MythBehaving”. She lives in the high desert of Southern Nevada with her two dogs, a chihuahua and a poodle.

Interview with Kym Grosso

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

Thanks so much for hosting me on my virtual book tour for my new release, Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves.  I really appreciate the opportunity to do an author interview.  It is great to be here with you and your readers!

I am the author of the erotic paranormal romance series, The Immortals of New Orleans. The series currently includes Kade's Dark Embrace (Immortals of New Orleans, Book 1), Luca's Magic Embrace (Immortals of New Orleans, Book 2) and Tristan's Lyceum Wolves (Immortals of New Orleans, Book 3).

In addition to romance, I’ve written and published several articles about autism, and I am passionate about autism advocacy.  I write autism articles on PsychologyToday.com and AutismInRealLife.com.  I’m also honored to be a contributing essay author in new release, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Raising Kids on the Spectrum.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves is the third book in the Immortals of New Orleans series and is an erotic paranormal romance.  At the end of Luca’s Magic Embrace, the charismatic and powerful Lyceum Wolves' Alpha, Tristan Livingston, endures an attack on his pack.  His nightclub is set ablaze, and he’s crushed in a building collapse.  In a show of strength, not only does Tristan survive it, he orchestrates the rebuild of his chic, state-of-the-art nightclub within a week. In his quest to mete out justice, he rescues a beautiful witness who may be the key to helping him find the perpetrators.

Dr. Kalli Williams, dedicated veterinarian, is hiding a secret that endangers not only her own life but the lives of wolves across the country. After being tortured by a savage vampire, she's reluctantly agrees to help the sexy Alpha in his quest to identify suspects; ones who'd kill her on the spot if they knew she existed. As Kalli places herself in the hands of the dominant wolf, she soon finds she wants nothing more than to submit.

Tristan, committed to ruling his pack as a lone wolf, is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious and enticing woman, who seems more than human, but not quite supernatural. As he discovers her secret, he teaches her the meaning of trust, helping her learn how to be true to her nature.  Will he succumb to the visceral need to claim her, acknowledging the soul binding connection between an Alpha and his mate?  And will he prevail against the menacing enemy who threatens to destroy Lyceum Wolves?

Are you a mom (or parent)? If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Yes. With juggling writing and parenting, I suppose it is like anything else in family life, it is a balance.  I try to write when my kids are in school, but with book promotion, I’m often on the computer at night as well.  Regardless of what’s happening, my kids always come first.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Definitely.  One of the things about all my books is that even though they have steamy hot love scenes, they all have a bit of a mystery/romantic suspense feel to them.  So I’d love to write a contemporary romantic suspense someday.  I’ve also considered writing straight erotic romance – no paranormal involved.  I started writing a novella (I’m about 12,000 words into it) but I didn’t finish it yet.

The Immortals of New Orleans series is a priority for me right now, as is continuing to write about autism on PsychologyToday.com.  I have all these ideas but not enough time to write. J

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

This is a great question.  And as an author, you do find yourself having relationship with the characters.  When I’m writing, they feel like real people having real conversations even though they are entirely fictional and all in my own head.  It’s kind of funny.

Tristan is by far the sexist male I’ve ever written.  From business to sex, he’s completely confident in everything he does.  While he’s very dominant, he has a great sense of humor about him.  He’s a little bit of a bad boy as well; likes to ride his Harley, exudes sexuality and could care less if people see him naked after he shifts.  There’s a scene in Luca’s book when he transforms from wolf to man if front of Samantha and just starts talking to her nonchalantly as if he isn’t nude.  At some point, Luca looks at him and is like, “Really wolf?  Where’re your clothes?”  He just so confident and sure of his nature; he doesn’t ever pretend to be anything he isn’t.  He’s pure Alpha wolf.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

The next book in the series will be Logan’s book.  In Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves, Logan is Tristan’s beta.  But by the end of the book, there is a surprise ending which leaves Logan in unforeseen circumstances.  Without telling spoilers, Logan’s life is about change as he takes on new responsibilities and finds himself back in New Orleans.

What book are you reading now?  What is in your to read pile?

I’m currently reading Slayer’s Kiss: The Shadow Slayer by Cassi Carver.  As for my “to read pile”, I’m still waiting to read, Lover At Last by JR Ward.  My print copy should be coming in the mail any day now.  Can’t wait!
