Interview and Giveaway with Shannon Casey

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

Passion from the Vine was released on October 22, 2013 and is an erotic novel.  It’s set in the present and successfully incorporates romance, winemaking, travel, and the culinary arts with great sex.

Izzy, the main character is a 24 year old woman who has always done what she was supposed to do, go to college, marry her sweetheart and made her life decisions based on her husband’s desires.  But life is not perfect and in fact crumbles when he leaves her for another woman and she is left with nothing.  Not knowing what to do, she turns to her sex therapist mother, who always thought her husband was a weak limp dick anyway and is thrilled with the perspective of helping Izzy find herself.

Taking a sabbatical from life in Europe, Izzy soon realizes that the decline of her marriage was not her fault and that her husband was in fact a selfish prick.  She begins a journey of self discovery that leads her to her true calling, the culinary arts, but more importantly to a once in a life time love. Izzy discovers her passion for intimacy has no end with Valentino, but past demons threaten to rip them apart.   The only question is, can two broken souls come together, start anew and actually fight fear to stay together?

Are you a mom?

Yes, I have three beautiful children, two girls and a boy.  I thought I was done after my girls, but 12 years later we had a boy!

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Definitely!!  The hardest part about writing is finding the time to sit down and actually write.  I still have a day job, a house to run, kids to raise and a husband to please.  At times it is overwhelming and I think about giving up, but I can’t because my passion is writing.  I have always dreamed about creating unique stories that others could escape into and therefore enhance their own lives.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a psychologist who works with special needs children and no matter what I wouldn’t give up contact with my kid’s.  If my dream of writing full time ever becomes a reality, then I would love to volunteer for Special Olympics and other programs for challenged children.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

My hobbies are horseback riding, hiking and picking up rocks/shells on the beach.
My guilty pleasures are nights out dancing with my husband, ice cream and taking baths with a good book.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Yes, my next book will be a fantasy romance and then I would like to tackle a psychological thriller.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

Passion from the Vine was just released in November 2013, however, I have been writing scenes for my next novel.  I’m constantly daydreaming about events and images that I want to create in the story, which is going to be a futuristic fantasy.  Sneak preview: it will be set in the future and involve Avatar’s.

What book are you reading now?

Inferno by Dan Brown, I’m on page 400.

What is in your to read pile?

Merrick and Blood and Gold by Anne Rice; The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski; Every Night I’m Yours by Christie Kelley and Wild, Wicked & Wanton by Jaci Burton.  These are in no particular order, but I usually like to bounce back and forth between erotic romances and psychological/supernatural thrillers.

About the Author:

Shannon Casey was born in Turlock, California, the second oldest of eight children.  Being the only girl she had to use her imagination to entertain herself.  She was also a tom boy who never let the fact that she was a girl slow her down.  She learned to ride horses better than the boys and practiced her hand at roping and barrel racing.

She married her high school sweet heart during her senior year and became a mother at seventeen, but she didn’t let that slow her down.  Her daughter became her motivation to obtain her college degree and create a better life for them.  Shannon graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 1997 and soon after had her second daughter.  She went on to obtain two master degrees in psychology, two credentials and a private license.

During her career as a psychologist she never gave up her dream of becoming an author, but as the years passed she never found the time to actually write.   Like most people, the daily grind and spending time with her children took precedence over her desire to create.

Then she met her second husband, Corey Casey, through her older brother Anthony.  They married in March 2008.  When her son was born in July 2009 it was the perfect time for her to cut her hours to part time.  Corey inspired her to pick up her pen and write, telling her that she would never know unless she tried.   Since that time, she has written her first novel, traveled and found her creative outlet.
