Interview and Giveaway with Anita Cox

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I’ve been writing crime fiction, suspense and paranormal novels for nearly a decade under my real name, Kim Mullican.  I have no issues with my identity. I only created Anita Cox so my non-erotica readers wouldn’t cross into that genre unless it was intentional.  I never want my fans to be confused.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

The Beginning is the first in the Dirty White Candy trilogy.  While the title seems so simple, it says so much.  This is the beginning of Candy Kavana’s sexual journey.  She really learns to change charge of herself and her sexuality.  I truly hope it empowers others to take charge of their own lives as well.

Are you a mom?

I am. I have two biological children and two step-children, not to mention three fur-babies.

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Nah, I just toss food at them.  Kidding!  It is a challenge to find that precious quiet time where there are no interruptions.  Sometimes they don’t understand that a simple, “Mom!” can suck me out of a really awesome scene that took me an hour to work into.  I love to keep vampires hours and write late into the night.  It’s quiet then. The dogs are also asleep and not begging to go out / come in every five minutes.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

Due to the confidentiality agreements required when signing into swing clubs, I’m going to have to plead the fifth here.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

Yes! Communication is always key.  It’s not only key to your interpersonal relationships but can really make for a fruitful and satisfying sex life.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I’m not sure if it’s going to shock anyone to know that I used to own a swing club.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Honestly, I love to fish.  It’s peaceful (until the hubs or I catch a fish.)  We take an annual fishing trip every spring.  Hmm, not sexy, but there it is.

Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?

The Lycan books by Nicky Charles. God, I’ve read the series like 3 times.  Nicky is a phenomenal writer and keeps all her books free, only asking that you donate to your local pet rescue. How freakin’ awesome is that???  (I know I’m supposed to be talking about me, but if you like werewolf/shifter books you should really check these out!)

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Nope.  I write crime fiction, suspense and paranormal romance under my given name.  So I’m in every genre I enjoy.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

One of my serial killer novels had a bunch of drag queens in it.  I enjoyed writing them so much. I’d spent time interviewing a few and learning about everything that goes into being a drag queen.  If you think we go through a ton of stuff to look pretty, you should be a dude trying to look smexy in an evening gown.  It’s a ton of work.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

Book Two, Ultimate Vacation was just released on March 31st by Liquid Silver Books.  Book Three, Trading Places doesn’t have a release date yet.

What book are you reading now?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. He’s a great writer but I’d rather go see the dentist. This story is so gut wrenching… which is why it’s taking me a long time to read it.  I can only do small chunks at a time before I get sad again. And sad…sucks.  Nothing against Green. If he didn’t do such a great job writing it, I wouldn’t still be trying to finish it.

Generally, I read a book in about a day. So this is…weird for me. Not my usual reading genre.

Thank you so much for having me on your site.

About the Author:

Anita Cox has an affinity with leather and high-heeled boots. The same vivacious attitude can be found in her erotic adventure and erotic romance. With her rock star husband, she plays in the lifestyle in which she writes, adding authenticity to her voice.

Anita likes to add strong female characters, even if they are a bit quirky. Her men are hot with just enough flaws to make them loveable.
