Interview and Giveaway Chris M Arnone

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I’m Chris Arnone. I live in Kansas City, MO with my wife and our four cats. The genre for my first book is contemporary or cross-world fantasy, though I plan to write in other genres after I finish this trilogy. For a pen name, I just throw my middle initial in: Chris M. Arnone.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

My first book is called The Lost and Broken Realm. It’s the story of Gabriel Drake, a man who’s wasted his life after his wife died. He crashes into a tree and wakes up in a world where all the lost and forgotten people, creatures, magic, and locations come to rest. He really wants to get back and fix his life, redeem his wife’s name, but he discovers this place is under the rule of a maniacal emperor and only Gabriel can put a stop to him. So he has to
choose: save these people or escape and fix his own life?

Are you a parent?

My wife and I have four cats. That counts, right?

(Oh yes fur babies count, I have a couple of those too ;-)

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I think it’s impossible not to. I believe that characters are all aspects of a writer’s soul. Everything they are and everything they’ve experienced goes into those characters. For instance, my deuteragonist in the book I’m currently writing, she’s a burlesque dancer. I know many burlesque dancers and my character takes parts and pieces from all of these real people I know.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

Themes? Absolutely. The Lost and Broken Realm has prevalent themes around the power of words and memory, redemption, and the corruption of greed. I try to steer clear from putting any messages in my works, though.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I look damn good in a kilt.

(you tease us with that but don't provide an image??!!  Yes, the author photo below hints and teases....but no legs!! LOL)

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Well, I obviously read a lot. I’m a gamer and host of the BlizzPro Weekly YouTube show. I occasionally emcee shows in Kansas City. My wife and I attend a lot of local performances and art shows around Kansas City.

Is there a genre that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Cyberpunk. I’ve got a cool story idea in the back of my head with this awesome female protagonist. I’m not ready to tackle that one yet, but I will one day.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

I mentioned the burlesque dancer in my upcoming book earlier. Her name is Lorelei and she’s been a blast to write. She strong, vibrant, magical, and doesn’t give a damn what people think of her.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

The Lost and Broken Realm is the first part of a trilogy called Things Forgotten. I really can’t say too much about it other than what I’ve already said about Lorelei, though I can tell you Gabriel Drake is back as my protagonist.

What book are you reading now?

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett.

What is in your to read pile?

Next on my list is probably Love Minus Eighty by Will McIntosh. I also plan on getting back into the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning (my wife’s recommendation). Then I’ll read MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood.

Book Description:

Gabriel Drake had royally fouled up his life. Before his wife died, he was wealthy, respected, and loved. He pissed away the small fortune he and his wife built, drove away his friends, alienated his family, and even took a few precarious steps on the wrong side of the law. He lost his way. The world had forgotten the man he was, and then a head-on collision between his Jeep and a tree changed everything.

Death would have been easier. Instead, he’s woken up in a strange place where all the lost and forgotten things and people of our world go to rest. The laws of physics seem to be driven more by magic than logic. Cats fly and talk into his mind. He’s in a place where real power has been trampled under the foot of a maniacal emperor, and Gabriel alone has the power to free these forgotten people from the emperor’s iron grip. Which will Gabriel save: these lost and broken people, or his own shattered life?

About the Author:

Chris grew up in Independence, MO. He attended college at Truman State University where he pursued his loves of theater, music, and the written word. Now, he makes his home in Kansas City, MO with his wife Christy and their four cats.

Aside from writing feverishly, he is an avid supporter of the Kansas City burlesque, performance, and arts communities. He is an occasional emcee, outspoken supporter of LGBTQ equality, and King of the Nerds. No, you didn't vote for him; that's why he's king, not president.
