Guest blog and Giveaway with Kat De Falla

Embrace your E-READER!!!

When I got the email that said The Wild Rose Press was picking up The Seer’s Lover, the same thing flashed in my mind that I imagine flashes in the mind of many a new author: “I can’t wait to hold my baby in my hands!”

The crisp new pages, the smell of a new book, flipping through the pages and seeing my own name IN PRINT!

As The Wild Rose Press does product print book for certain word counts…I was in! Of course, the ebook was available first and I downloaded it the moment it was live on Amazon.

I quickly ordered ten of my babies in the mail…and waited…and waited. Where were they? Finally, weeks later, my neighbor came over with a box and said, “Are these yours? Because we’ve never ordered ten of the same book.”

Arrgh! Actually, it was a bit anticlimactic. My babies had been sitting on their front porch, then tossed aside INSIDE a house across the street for days!

I began to wonder at my marveling over my name in print. Was I more excited the book was available, or the ebook?

The truth is…shh!...I love the ebook. I had tons of downloads during my Kindle Free Days putting my ebook in the hands of people who might otherwise not give it a chance.

Then the real bummer. My husband and I love the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but every time we drive through, we see the decimation of the logging companies. I won’t show pictures or videos…you’ve seen it, and it’s depressing.

Here are the stats (from ePublishers weekly 9/28/09):
“In the USA in one year, 2 billion books are produced. To get the paper for these books requires consuming 32 million trees. We can estimate that one tree yields enough paper for 62.5 books…The 200 million ebooks downloaded saved three million and two hundred thousand (3,200,000) trees.”

Okay, that’s pretty staggering. I’m not saying to abandon our beloved print books. We all have them and have lots we could never part with, but embrace your ereader!

Initially, I was sad that my book wouldn’t be prominently displayed in Barnes and Noble. But now, I realize the POD (print-on-demand) that The Wild Rose Press uses, ensures that only people who REALLY want a print copy of my book, get one.

If you’re feeling green…go splurge on an ebook and save the print books for those favorites you can’t live without!

Read on!
