Interview and Giveaway with Casey Moss

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

Casey Moss delves into the darker aspects of life in her writing, sometimes basing the stories on reality, sometimes on myth. No matter the path, her stories will take you on a journey from the light hearted paranormal to dark things unspeakable. What waits around the corner? Come explore…

Casey’s passion lies in darker fiction. Her stories fall into the horror and urban fantasy genres. Sometimes there’s also the blending of paranormal, suspense, thriller, romantic elements and/or eroticism in the stories. Some of the stories are even set within her home city of Las Vegas. But if she’s done her job right as an author, all the stories should set you on edge, leave you craving and wanting to explore more of the dark.

She also writes romance and erotic romance under the name C.R. Moss.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: http://www.evernightpublishing.com/keyboards-and-kink/ & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK.

In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real.

Now, when it comes to Open World, it’s actually made up of parts from two novellas that had been previously published. Those stories were my very first published ones released in 2008 under my alter ego’s name. A few years ago, I received the rights back on them, and they sat in a file until this year. There’s been some major work done to revamp them from a sci-fi’ish plot to the computer gaming one present in the book today. I am so excited these stories, and more to come in the C.O.V.E.N. world, have found new life and a great new home with Evernight Publishing.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I’ve used the basis and background knowledge of energy work that I learned in the massage field for paranormal stories I’ve worked on. I love using the places I’ve lived in and visited as the settings. There was one story I wrote (it’s not available at the moment) where I used a situation I’d been in one night on a beach. So I use tidbits of real life experiences here and there, but mostly it comes from imagination.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

My themes and subjects seem to revolve around issues about trust and commitment, sometimes betrayal, sometimes about spirituality and/or religion. Sometimes, though, a story is just about two people meeting and hooking up without anything too deep going on.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I crewed for a balloon pilot once upon a time.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

I watch movies and television. I’ll read. I’ll crochet. Sometimes I’ll play some on-line computer games. On the weekend nights we’ll have people over to play cards/board games. On occasion I can be found out drinking with friends.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

This is almost like asking ‘who’s your favorite child’…but since I don’t have kids… Right now it’s JT from my C.O.V.E.N. series. He has a very brief appearance in Open World, but will be one of the main characters in the next book.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

The next book will be C.O.V.E.N. – Genesis. It’s going to cover how the game came to be.

What book are you reading now?

I’m reading a few. One by Jade Lee. One from one of my favorite authors, KC Klein; Hustlin’ Texas. And, then there’s Under the Dome by Stephen King.
