A Review of Villa Massa Limoncello

When I received an email about reviewing Limoncello I was very excited.

I couldn't wait to try it.

I am a huge lemon fan- a fan of pretty much anything sour. So I expected this to be an instant favorite of mine. Unfortunately not so much.

I was very surprised at the flavor the the Limoncello.  It wasn't at all what I expected. I thought it would be sweeter and smoother.

To me it tasted liked lemon flavored cough syrup.

My Italian husband said I was crazy and that it is absolutely delicious. A perfect Limoncello.

I just didn't care for it. But my husband, a true Italian, absolutely loved it and has enjoyed it on several occasions.

So I guess if you are a fan of authentic Italian Limoncello you will probably love this.

About Villa Massa Limoncello from http://www.villamassa.com/

The traditional Limoncello of Sorrento is produced by Villa Massa usingan old family recipe .

Just respect for tradition and the great care of the raw materials used to make more than twenty years, this international leader in the production of limoncello, the real Limoncello of Sorrento is in fact made using only lemons grown in one of the municipalities of the Sorrento peninsula, and in 'island of Capri.

The limoncello (also known as limoncino ) is a sweet liqueur born according to tradition at the end of the nineteenth century, such as alcoholic beverage made by blending expertly lemons, sugar and alcohol. Thegeographic origins of limoncello , a typical product eno bell, you will lose between different traditions.

The first historical Limoncello is on the island of Capri, where in 1900 thebrand "limoncello" was recorded for the first time. However, there are documents of the same period who say that the lemon liqueur was already a fixture on the tables of families of Sorrento, which is used as an aperitif or digestif. According to tradition, the origins of Amalfi Limoncello would instead be traced back to the same period in which he introduced the cultivation of Amalfi lemon.

Despite the different versions, today's limoncello is certainly one of the most famous and popular food and wine of Campania: excellent digestive if served cold, Limoncello is a pleasure to be enjoyed at room temperature, maybe mixed in tonic water or champagne. Frequent use even on ice cream and fruit salads.

In Campania, in the land of its production Prince, Limoncello closes especially lunch or dinner, a social ritual almost like coffee.

How To Write A Yelp Review

Thank you so much for featuring my book Jennifer Ainsley: The Final Demon War.  It was a great experience writing my first novel after writing 4 screenplays. One of the ways that I practice my writing is by creating Yelp reviews.  I love dining out, hiking and visiting wineries so I have ample places and locations to review.  It is a great way to practice my writing, meet new people and I have also sold dozens of books through Yelp. I have met a few dating partners too over the years but I will focus on the writing not the salacious details ;)

My Yelp profile can be found here:

I have over 1200 friends and over 760 reviews.  So how does one write a good Yelp review?  Here are my tips:

·       Don’t be shy to include social commentary

Recently during a visit at a Monterey winery one of the patrons collapsed on the floor.  While paramedics attended to the stricken and stressed man, the winery continued to pour for the visitors who also continued to drink the wine.  It was completely surreal and really struck home how human empathy and common sense seem to be in the decline.  I made note of these observations and included them in my 2 star review.  It is observational detail like that that increases your audience and gets people to continue reading your reviews (and maybe buying your book).  Here is one example (and yes I start every review with a quote):

"We are homesick most for the places we have never known."
― Carson McCullers

I love Starbuck's just for the little human observation details one can see. At the one in Irvine in the Trader Joe's Plaza on Culver, it's the fascinating demolition derby of cars as that terrible parking lot design combined with frantic, inattentive, unskilled drivers combines into a kaleidoscope of unintended comedy.

Here in Mayberry, the scenes unfold a bit differently.

This Starbucks is located in the Walnut Grove Center in Morgan Hill. Yep, adjacent to another Trader Joe's and a CVS. Parking is excellent so no hilarity there. This Starbucks is busy but not unbearably so. There is a side room with a long mission style table where a few times I plugged in my laptop to work on my manuscript in the evenings and weekends. Service is generally efficient if impersonal and I still like the breakfast sandwiches here along with the hot chocolate.

But it's those little human scenes with just enough emotional pathos packed into a few seconds that you really can get a base understanding of the human condition and really make the visits here interesting.

Like this scene:

Hot brunette looks away when beefy married guy with four kids and wife in tow, not only smiles at her once, but goes in for second stare as he walks away with his latte, trailing the oblivious wife and kids.

What was he thinking with that oh so obvious second stare that he held for too long of a beat? Upset at the brunette for ignoring him? Longing for a previous life before the marriage and kids? Hoping desperately that he was still an attractive dude and trying to delay the ravages of time? Did he fantasize about the woman during that rare occasion he makes love to his wife or more likely, the frequent times he pleases himself alone?

That man was definitely forlornly homesick for a place he will never know...

·       Go to interesting places

Don’t write about the local Subway or McDonalds unless something unusual or unique occurs. Do write about your travels, interesting tourist spots, hiking trails, wineries; even professional services like dentists or contractors! Yelp is not just about restaurants!  Of course you may find yourself become a slave to only eating at local mom n pop places just to impress your Yelp friends J

·       Practice using different voices or techniques

One friend of mine changes the voice of his review constantly or writes it as a haiku or an advice column. In my reviews, sometimes I write in the voice of my son and my friends all love those reviews. Unfortunately sometimes Yelp doesn’t and they end up getting pulled.  Here is an example of one I did as my son that was removed after a year of being online:

Preparation for old age should begin not later than one's teens.
A life which is empty of purpose until 65 will not suddenly become filled on retirement -- Dwight L. Moody
So this hotel is recently remodeled and while pricing can be too high if you do not get a deal, when you can get a Hotwire or AAA rate it is very worth it. Nice rooms, good service, a decent breakfast (they just need more healthy choices) make this place a winner in Morgan Hill. I have stayed here and I had a friend stay here as well both with similar positive experiences. Are you asleep yet?

Oh, and sorry Niki S. but all the compliments for Hampton Inn were also removed too. Richard S. of Georgia is now the 12,000th compliment winner!!!! If he ever makes it out to California that is...

Highly recommended.

Now, my son stayed with me and had his own perspective:

What's up Yelpsters!!! Or is it Yelpbookers??? Yelptweets?? I don't know, who cares, you all are weird (Except my Dads Yelping friends who all seem to be cute. Yuck! I do not like girls! Although I soooo pone them at handball). This is, what does my dad call me, Mini-me! Although a few more years, I'll be bigger than him, because he will shrink as I grow, and I will call him Mini-me!!! Or maybe Mini-me 1.0 Ha! Ha! Ha!

I've taken over his computer. Dumb dads. "ooh, I'll password protect my laptop". Yeah, by using the same password you use on everything else!!!!! My dad is very smart but sometimes he is very dumb. Just like a lot of adults are. Smart. Dumb. Dumb. Smart. Smumb!!! Ha! Ha! Ha! New word! I just crack myself up.

I see he was starting to review the Hampton Inn. What does that quote above mean? and why does he do that? Just review the damn, oops, darn place!!! My dad hates it when I use bad language. Crap isn't a bad word!!! We all crap!!! Crap! Crap! Crap!! Ha! Ha! Ha! My dad took me on an awful hike, I hate hiking!, and I almost stepped in horses crap! Oops, I meant poop (I thought he was waking up but he is still snoring. Hey, here is a joke I learned at school: Why do black widow spiders kill their males after mating? To stop the snoring before it starts. Thank God my Dad is not a spider. I hate spiders! Spiders suck!!! But they don't crap! Ha! Ha! Ha!) Oh, And do not go in the bathroom after my dad craps!!! Ewwwwww!!!!! Talk about Defcon 5 and call in the HazMat team!!!! Wait, where was I?

Oh yeah, my Smumb Dad left his computer on so I'm going to finish his Hampton review. He was only going to give it 4 stars but that is crap with a Capital C!!! Just because they don't have a decent fruit selection at breakfast?? Who cares??? They have hot bacon and waffles!!!! Bacon is the fruit and waffles are the veggie in my crappy food pyramid!!! Plus, the beds and pillows are comfy, service is good especially since my Dad tips the maids and my dad said the hotel is remodeled. You will like the way it looks! I guarantee it! I think I saw that on a crappy commercial once! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Hey, what does that other quote of his mean? Love makes the world go up and down instead of around? Up and down? Love? Hey, wait, that's gross Dad...Ewwwwwww!!!!!! What a dumb, not smumb, Dad! Yuck!

Wi-Fi can lag sometimes but otherwise it works good. I know, I've had problem winning at Minecraft this week because my Dad doesn't let me use computer as much as my mom does. Why do we have to go on hikes Dad?????? 'Deer and cows, oh my?' No, Deers and Cows who cares!!!! Screens rule!

Anyway, my Dad said he got a good deal on Hotwire. I have no idea what that is unless my Dad is a secret Agent stealing cars like those cool dudes on Fast and Furious 6! That movie rocks! except my dad doesn't look like the mumbling t-shirt guy or the big humongous guy. And my Dad can't even password protect his laptop much less hotwire a car! He is such a smumby!!! Ha! Ha!

So a hotwired comfy hotel with hot bacon and waffles!!! Five stars in my book! Or MacBook as the case may be, right snoring smumb Dad!!!!!

I am out of here to go kill some zombies!!!!!

·       Have fun and be creative!

Describe your experience and everything so readers have a sense of the restaurant but have some fun with it. It is just a review and one in which you are not getting paid J So be honest, describe food and service accurately, do not be a jerk and have fun!  The genius of Yelp is that it is a social network combined with a review site.  The more creative you are the more people will read your reviews and the more interesting foodie friends you can make.

Have a great weekend and again thank you for featuring my book!

About the Author:

Sidney Stone is a hiker, deer whisperer and non-pretentious wine connoisseur. An addicted reviewer on Yelp, he is also creator of affordable housing (although technically he is homeless part-time), thinks The Replacements are the best band of the Eighties and loves to boost his LinkedIn count with people he doesn't know.

He lives in both Northern and Southern California while constantly traveling to Orange County to visit his son, who can now beat his father at ping pong and chess rather easily (and is charmingly arrogant while doing it). A graduate of UC Irvine and Pepperdine University, Sidney wishes he chose at least one university to attend that had a college football team to root for.

The first scene Sidney thought of for Jennifer Ainsley: The Final Demon War included a rather large massacre (take that for what it is worth). However, inspired by the works of Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Clive Barker; the book's violence is offset by dark humor and deep human emotion just like in real life where Sidney's darkness is offset by creatively placed sarcasm and an overwrought romanticism. For example, while Jennifer Ainsley: The Final Demon War is a Fantasy-Horror novel, Sidney also still tears up at the end of both Field of Dreams and An Officer and a Gentleman.

Interview and Giveaway with Kristen Strassel

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

Hi! I’m Kristen, I’m always Kristen, haha. No pen names here. I already had worked hard to get my name out in the world as a freelance makeup artist, so I figured half of my work had already been done for getting my name out there as a writer.  Hopefully, no matter why someone is searching for me, I can add something creative to their lives. I write New Adult Romance, Paranormal and Contemporary.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

NIGHT MOVES is the second book in The Night Songs Collection. It introduces a new narrator and band, so if you haven’t had a chance to read BECAUSE THE NIGHT, you won’t be lost. Of course, you’ll pick up on a lot more if you’ve read both books. Anyway, NIGHT MOVES is the story of Melanie, a girl who did all the right things but they made her miserable, and a rock band that will do anything to make their heyday last forever.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

All the time! Much of NIGHT MOVES, aside from the vampire part, is based on real events. I’ll let the readers decide how much I embellished. J The Night Songs Collection is mainly set in Las Vegas, a city I used to call home and still consider my home away from home.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

I write New Adult, but not the girl in college meets bad boy NA that we see so much of. I’m interested in the people who’ve messed up, who make decisions that didn’t work out as they planned, and how they bounce back from them. Not everyone goes away to a 4 year school and lives in a dorm. I’ve always been fascinated by the people who’ve taken the hard road, whether they’ve had the choice or not, and how the flourish.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I am a diehard football fan. Go Patriots!

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

My “day job,” as I mentioned above, is doing makeup for film, TV, and commercials. So that’s always pretty interesting, because I get to see a lot of cool things and meet a lot of great people. When I’m home, I like to cook, decorate, and I’m learning how to pole dance.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

I have this 70’s space opera thing floating in my head which might be visually cooler than anything else. We’ll see.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

Tristan. He only makes a cameo in NIGHT MOVES. He was my first character, and he’s a bit misunderstood. LOL I wanted him to be volatile, not in any sort of abusive way, but in the way that you never knew what to expect when he entered the scene. He’s the ultimate excessive seeking rock star.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

Yes. There’s one more book in the trilogy, WE OWN THE NIGHT, coming late summer. Melanie teams up with Callie from BECAUSE THE NIGHT and they all have to fix the messes they’ve created.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

WE OWN THE NIGHT will be next. There are more books in The Night Songs collection, but they’re in the world and support the trilogy. Life doesn’t happen in a straight line, not even in my books. I’m hoping to have one more book out that’s in the world by the end of the year. Otherwise, I’m putting the finishing touches on a first draft of a NA contemporary romance. There are no vampires, but there is a rock star. You can’t ask me to go cold turkey.

What book are you reading now?

WE WON’T FEEL A THING by JC Lillis.

Rage drives Melanie to do the unthinkable.

When Soul Divider was on the top of the world, so was Ryder Maddox. When the band faded into obscurity, Ryder’s luck plummeted with it. In a last ditch effort to rekindle the band’s heyday, Soul Divider teams up with powerful vampire clan leader, Talis de Rancourt. In return for her services, the band pays the ultimate price for never ending fame.

Now on the run, Melanie meets Ryder in a middle of nowhere hotel. She never expected her teenage rock star crush to be as lost and as in need of a companion as she is. Their connection is all consuming, even before they find they share another kinship: murder.

The newly turned vampires in Soul Divider still have a lot to learn. The police and public begin to connect the girls that go missing or die in sync with the band’s tour schedule. Back at home, clues are also adding up against Melanie as well. Interview: Kaylee The “What If?” Game by Christine Dzidrums

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I was born and raised in Southern California and still live there to this day. I’m married to my best friend, and we were blessed with three small children. I primarily focus on three genres: Young Adult, Picture Books and Children’s Biographies of inspirational, notable figures. I don’t have any pen names, but if I did I would use Sandy Zuko for my pen name.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

In 2010, I wrote a book entitled “Cutters Don’t Cry,” about a teen named Charity who self-harms. In that book, there’s a chapter about Charity’s best friend, Kaylee. It was my favorite chapter to write in “Cutters” because I found Kaylee so intriguing and fascinating. After I finished writing the chapter, I still wanted to learn more about her. That’s when I knew right away who my next book would be about.

“Kaylee: The What If?” Game tells the story of a teenage girl who attempts suicide after experiencing debilitating panic attacks. While in the psych ward of the hospital, she begins examining the recent events in her life that led to her emotional and physical breakdown.

Are you a mom ?

Yes. I have a 5-year-old son, 3-year-old son and 22-month-old daughter. They keep me very busy!

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

It’s not easy. I find time to write while being a full-time mom. When I’m writing a book, I spend the day with my children and write furiously when they go to sleep for the night. I’ve always been a night owl and have always done my best writing while the rest of the world sleeps, so it works out. I’m lucky that I can sometimes go a month at a time on about 2-3 hours of sleep a night. Toward the end of a book, I’ve been known to pull several all-nighters to get more work done, but I always regret that decision in the morning!

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

 – Oh sure…all the time. Charity in “Cutters Don’t Cry” was based on my personal experience with cutting. Charity’s life wasn’t mine but many of her thoughts and insights were. A lot of the supporting characters in “Kaylee” were partially based on people I know, but Kaylee wasn’t based on me. I’m not that cool.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I was diagnosed with a moderate level of ADD about ten years ago. I always suspected I had it, especially because getting through school and even college was extraordinarily difficult for me. I’d feel like I was crawling out of my skin during my classes and couldn’t wait for them to end. I have a horrible attention span from everything from carrying on a conversation to being very forgetful in my day-to-day activities. People often think I’m aloof but it’s because I have to force myself to stay focused and actively listen in every situation. It can be a challenge sometimes. And yes, I’m sure there’s a book in me somewhere about it. J

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

If you’d have asked me six years ago, I would have said that I love long drives, read all the time and try to see a stage musical every month. Life has changed since I’ve had children. Now when I have free time, I take them out somewhere, like a picnic, museum or an animated movie. The other day we went to the drive-in. There were three children in the front seat of the car watching Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and my husband and I sat in the back seat. It was quite the experience. By the end of the night, our car had popcorn everywhere!

Which series do you wish you had written?

Does Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli count? I absolutely loved the first book especially. The author nailed the pain of adolescence in middle school and how your actions, or lack of actions, can haunt you the rest of your life. It’s a heartbreaking book.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

I am in the beginning stages of writing a juvenile mystery novel. Mysteries were my favorite genre when I first became an avid reader as a young girl. I really liked Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew and the Meg series. I’m so excited (and scared!) to tackle that genre next.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

I’m working on my third SoCal book, “Life Before Elmo”, right now. It’s the story of a teenage mother who make a connection with someone online. Other than that, I’ll be appearing at a few different book festivals throughout the year and enjoying time with my family.

Interview and Giveaway with Anita Cox

Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

I’ve been writing crime fiction, suspense and paranormal novels for nearly a decade under my real name, Kim Mullican.  I have no issues with my identity. I only created Anita Cox so my non-erotica readers wouldn’t cross into that genre unless it was intentional.  I never want my fans to be confused.

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

The Beginning is the first in the Dirty White Candy trilogy.  While the title seems so simple, it says so much.  This is the beginning of Candy Kavana’s sexual journey.  She really learns to change charge of herself and her sexuality.  I truly hope it empowers others to take charge of their own lives as well.

Are you a mom?

I am. I have two biological children and two step-children, not to mention three fur-babies.

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

Nah, I just toss food at them.  Kidding!  It is a challenge to find that precious quiet time where there are no interruptions.  Sometimes they don’t understand that a simple, “Mom!” can suck me out of a really awesome scene that took me an hour to work into.  I love to keep vampires hours and write late into the night.  It’s quiet then. The dogs are also asleep and not begging to go out / come in every five minutes.

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

Due to the confidentiality agreements required when signing into swing clubs, I’m going to have to plead the fifth here.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

Yes! Communication is always key.  It’s not only key to your interpersonal relationships but can really make for a fruitful and satisfying sex life.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I’m not sure if it’s going to shock anyone to know that I used to own a swing club.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Honestly, I love to fish.  It’s peaceful (until the hubs or I catch a fish.)  We take an annual fishing trip every spring.  Hmm, not sexy, but there it is.

Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?

The Lycan books by Nicky Charles. God, I’ve read the series like 3 times.  Nicky is a phenomenal writer and keeps all her books free, only asking that you donate to your local pet rescue. How freakin’ awesome is that???  (I know I’m supposed to be talking about me, but if you like werewolf/shifter books you should really check these out!)

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

Nope.  I write crime fiction, suspense and paranormal romance under my given name.  So I’m in every genre I enjoy.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

One of my serial killer novels had a bunch of drag queens in it.  I enjoyed writing them so much. I’d spent time interviewing a few and learning about everything that goes into being a drag queen.  If you think we go through a ton of stuff to look pretty, you should be a dude trying to look smexy in an evening gown.  It’s a ton of work.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

Book Two, Ultimate Vacation was just released on March 31st by Liquid Silver Books.  Book Three, Trading Places doesn’t have a release date yet.

What book are you reading now?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. He’s a great writer but I’d rather go see the dentist. This story is so gut wrenching… which is why it’s taking me a long time to read it.  I can only do small chunks at a time before I get sad again. And sad…sucks.  Nothing against Green. If he didn’t do such a great job writing it, I wouldn’t still be trying to finish it.

Generally, I read a book in about a day. So this is…weird for me. Not my usual reading genre.

Thank you so much for having me on your site.
