Interview and Giveaway Bottle Banished: Dreaming of Genie by C.L. Riley

  1. Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use:

I love to write in multiple genres. I write under two names but am keeping my other name hush-hush for the time being. Top secret! I enjoy writing paranormal romance and dark fantasy, but have a biker romance, new adult series in the works. I’ve also outlined a young adult science fiction adventure for down the road. I read just about everything and imagine I could genre-jump without too much difficulty. I have published a variety of nonfiction articles and inspirational short stories in the past, using that OTHER name. I like writing nonfiction too.

  1. Are you a mom?

I am indeed a mom. I have two kids, one in college and the other in high school. I was blessed with both a boy and girl. I only wish they would see each other as blessings. Even now, there is still a touch of sibling rivalry. My son, the oldest, has grown out of it, for the most part, but his younger sister (sweet sixteen) seems to enjoy taunting him. Ah…some things never change.

  1. If yes, do you have a hard time juggling writing and parenting?

Not so much at this point but definitely in the past. Though, even now, I have to remember to stop and listen. I can get so wrapped up in a story (writing or reading) that I don’t pay attention the way I should. My daughter makes sure to call me out on my lapses. When she talks, I listen! As a single parent, juggling has always been a part of our lives. I work full time, write half the night, and, of course, take care of family. My very first book back in 2003 took several years to write due to the “juggling.” Today, despite my full time “day job” I finish a book in a year or less. My kids support my dream and know I have to write…or else.

  1. What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

Oh, this is a good one! I lived in Mexico for three months as a teenager. I stayed with an exchange student that I befriended in high school and slept in a hammock every night I was there. Best sleep ever! I was also a “backstage girl” back in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. I met a ton of rockstars and bands. (Yes, I have proof) I was friends with Courtney Love when she lived in Portland during that same era, well before she found fame. She would remember me by that other name. I didn’t really like her because I believed she’d lured my BFF away. (She did!) Teenage girl jealousies were alive and well back then too!

  1. Tell us about your latest or upcoming release/s?

My newest book, Bottle Banished: Dreaming of Genie, just released this month and is available for $.99 during my book tour (Sorry, shameless promotion!).  I am so excited to bring genies front and center. It’s about time they came out of their bottles and made an appearance in more fantasy fiction. Bottle Banished is a dark fantasy romance with alpha males galore. Readers can expect to enjoy magic, mystery, and some series mayhem. Not to mention, some very steamy scenes and edgy romantic elements. I am working on the second book in the series, Bottle Banished: Claiming Cassie and starting the Scorched Souls series, a four-part serial-series. The first book, Firetrap, will be out late spring. It is a biker romance that gives a major nod to the 1987 movie, Overboard, starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Unlike the movie, this series is dark, dark, dark. I caught the “biker bug” watching Sons of Anarchy and then discovered there was an entire genre of books related to bad boy bikers. It was only a matter of time before I penned my own.

  1. What book am I reading right now?

Well, let’s just say I never read one book at a time. I just finished Kiss the Witch Goodbye, Lisa Olsen. I’m also reading book three in Kresley Cole’s young adult, Arcana Chronicles, Dead of Winter and Christopher Rice’s The Surrender Gate, an erotic suspense/romance. How is that for variety?

  1. What is in my too-read pile?

I’ve got some great ones just waiting for me! Rebel, Callie Hart, THREE TWO ONE, JA Huss, and The Pact by Karina Halle.

  1. Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Right now I have one TV show I’m addicted to. Empire on Wednesday evenings has grabbed my attention in a big way. It just so happens Ms. Courtney Love is guest starring in a recurring role and doing, I think, a fantastic job. I am also a tad obsessed with playing those silly Match 3 and Hidden Object games on my Kindle. What time wasters! Sometimes it feels so good to just tune out and tune in to matching little meaningless objects. I’m embarrassed to admit how much I enjoy those darn games. Biggest guilty pleasure: a huge bowl of popcorn followed by a massive dish of ice cream, preferably red velvet or birthday cake. Okay, so now I’ve confessed!

Book Description:

Genie thought learning how to “do” The Hustle was the worst thing about 1977, right along with strobe lights and disco balls, but she discovers something far worse the day she is bottle banished by an unsanctioned hunter obsessed with her destruction.

Thirty-seven years later, she is awakened from her spellbound slumber by a homeless alcoholic who wants whiskey not a wish. Overwhelmed with shame and keeping secrets from even himself, Reid Romans is the worst master ever.

He stinks. He’s dirty. He’s rude, but even more maddening; he’s sinfully sexy under all the filth and attitude.

When his green-eyed gaze captures Genie for the first time, she’s hooked, and being hooked on a human is not acceptable or allowed according to the genie rule book.

While Reid’s unsavory past bites hard at his heels, and he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit, a powerful jinn is stalking Genie, intent on adding her to his harem. She has rejected him too many times to count, but he won’t stop until he claims her—body and soul.

Genie and Reid have way more than one love-sick jinn to deal with. A ruthless FBI agent; a cold-blooded cartel; and a hateful hunter, who wants genie back in her bottle, banished forever; keep them fighting for freedom and against the desire flaring between them.

Dark secrets, forbidden love, and simmering suspense take Genie and Reid on an unforgettable journey where the past and future collide and wishes run out.

Please be advised: Bottle Banished is a multiple POV (Point of View) dark fantasy that portrays graphic drug use, violence, language, and sexual situations some may find offensive, including dubious consent, light BDSM, and a Ménage à Trios. There is a Happily Ever After (HEA) for now, but several doors remain open for future installments.

Readers will uncover numerous references to current and past pop culture sprinkled throughout the story. Watch author’s website for contests connected to these references!
