What Are Your Favorite Halloween Movies?

The scariest movie I ever saw was Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, which was also a Disney movie. The premise of the story is the circus comes to town and two youngsters want to attend. Their guardians won’t let them. They have their reasons, but they won’t elaborate. The siblings sneak out at night to the circus and have an adventure. When morning comes, the circus disappears along with the youngsters as if they had never existed. I’m never quite sure why I decided this could happen, but I did believe it was more probable than aliens, serial killers, or zombies.

Here’s my list of Witch movies.

The Good Witch  This Hallmark movie is family friendly and proves that different isn’t always bad.

The Season of the Witch  This movie deals with a knight transporting a woman accused of being a witch.

Practical Magic  While the movie deals with being careful what you wish for it also embodies the concept that family does for family.

The Crucible This movie is based on Arthur Miller’s play about the Salem Witch Trials.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks  Angela Lansbury star in this children’s classic. (The link includes the entire movie.)

The entire Harry Potter series

Three Sovereigns for Sarah This is a PBS mini-series on The Salem Witch Trials

The Wizard of Oz Margaret Hamilton made The Wicked Witch of the West into an iconic image.  In real life, she was a former schoolteacher who worked tirelessly for children’s causes.

Hocus Pocus This comical movie has become a Halloween staple.

Carrie I prefer the Sissy Spacek version better because she epitomized the trusting teen who believes the popular guy really did ask her to the prom, despite her mother’s dire predictions.

I have a few non-witch movies that I enjoy too including The Omen (the original) and the Night of the Living Dead. What are your favorites?

About the Author:

Rayna Noire is an author and a historian. The desire to uncover the truth behind the original fear of witches led her to the surprising discovery that people believed in magick in some form up to 150 years ago. A world that believed the impossible could happen and often did must have been amazing. With this in mind, Ms. Noire taps into this dimension, shapes it into stories about Pagan families who really aren’t that different from most people. They do go on the occasional time travel adventures and magick happens.

I always enjoy when Hallmark has "A Good Witch" marathon.
