Chicken Chili Made with Bone Broth

So, I never followed up on my bone broth. I found these photos and remembered I needed to post my results.

It turned out really good. I made two batches. The first I used for white chicken chili and the second I kept as broth and froze.

I cooked the broth for about 24 hours, then strained all the bones and veggies out with a strainer and cheesecloth.

Then I used the broth as the base for chicken chili.

It was delicious!

Book Description:

Lady Morgan is a Knight of Queen Mab’s court. She’s earned it too – while most other Fae were playing tricks and using come-hither glamours on the unsuspecting, she was out saving the day – and finding true love.  But when fate steals her one shot at happiness, Morgan decides to find out if there really is no job, too big to handle alone.  Armed with a strong sword arm, a never-ending supply of wit, and very little magic, she is willing to take on the most dangerous of enemies…

Vallen is what most knights would consider their mortal enemy: a Dragon.  He’s also Sir Vallen, a member of an ancient order, and the years since he joined have made him as hard and grumpy on the inside as he is scaly on the outside.  His honor would never allow him to take the easy path, though, only the right one… which leaves him in something of a predicament when he first meets Lady Morgan…

When the strings of fate cross, Knight and Dragon set aside their differences to fight a common foe – and find the second chance at love they never knew they were looking for.

Excerpt:
The journey was pleasant and uneventful. It was enough to almost make me forget that I was on a mission to slay a Dragon and avenge my fallen love. “What are you going to do after you slay Avery?” Heather interrupted my thoughts.
“I don’t really know, to be honest with you. I was going to track down the Dragons that rescued me, and I still may, but I’m not sure how many more Dragons I really want to face in my lifetime.” I sat perplexed. For the first time in months I felt like I almost had my life back, and in many ways it was thanks to Sir Vallen and his brother. Though my blood still boiled when I thought about how they had dumped me in another realm.
“Do you think you will keep fighting, or settle down?” She was full of questions this morning.
“I have been waging war for most of my teenage and adult life now. I’m not entirely sure I want to do that anymore, but I’m not really good at anything else.” What other work was there to do? I wasn’t a farmer. Fae or not, I had a black thumb that made anything that wasn’t a weed shrivel and die within days. I couldn’t see myself crafting as an artisan did, or even building. I shook my head. “I really don’t know,” I said again, but this time more for my own benefit than hers.
She sat in quiet contemplation of my words. When she finally spoke again it was with a new perspective of the world. “I don’t know what I want to do with my life when this ‘adventure’ is over. It makes me feel a little better that you don’t know either. I thought something was wrong with me for not knowing.”
“I don’t think not knowing makes you lost. I think not caring does. Whatever I do when this is over, I will still help others. I’ve never heard anyone regret their life when they lived it showing kindness and helping others” As long as I am helping people, I know I will find joy in what I do, I thought to myself.

Interview and Giveaway: Desecrated Beauty by Kyleigh Castronaro

Welcome, Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.

My name is Kyleigh Castronaro and I write Paranormal Romance. I currently live in England with my husband and miniature dachshund Hera. I’m originally from Canada and plan to move back there in September. I write dirty, sexy stories about humans and their supernatural lovers. I love tattoos, 50s repro-culture and bad boys. I’m a bit of a new age spiritual hippy, I love crystals and aromatherapy and believe in ghosts.

Tell us a little about your latest release.

Desecrated Beauty is a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast with vampires. It takes place about 50 years in the future after the world has changed drastically. Supernaturals have begun to out populate humans and as a result their existence is becoming more and more known to humans. Quill learns that what the humans refer to as the “blood baths” wasn’t actually a culling of humans with undesirable traits (such as criminal records or violent tendencies) but actually an uncontrolled vampire smorgasbord that resulted in the city being locked down in order to control the human population by a military operation that is in cohorts with the vampire council. Quill rebels against the system and lives as an outlaw outside the walls with a band of kids known as The Desecrated.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

I’m not entirely sure there is something they would be surprised to know because I try to be pretty straight forward about myself. Honesty is the best policy after all. I would have to say if anything it would probably be my age. I turned 24 this year.

When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?

When I’m not writing I’m usually glued to Netflix. I also take classes online for aromatherapy, crystal healing, life coaching, hot stone massage, hopi ear candling, and colour therapy. I give tarot readings as a part time gig and continually work on developing my spiritual side.

Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?

I would love to write a historical fiction novel. I’m a history buff and I would love to do something with the classical period or the Tudor period. Even the French Revolution would be fun.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

The next book that’s ready to go is a retelling of Rumplestilskin, instead of vampires the main supernaturals are Faeries from a realm known as Aithar Gloine. A human woman gets catapulted into the realm by a Fae known as Aviur when her daughter is kidnapped. There she meets the King of the Faeries who promises to help her find her daughter if she’ll become his mate.

In Desecrated Beauty there’s a struggle for dominance but in this book there’s more submission, m/m themes and a ménage a trois.

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

Tyranny of a Prince is my next release. The date isn’t confirmed but hopefully it will be available in early/mid September. It’s the third book in my Grace of Gods series.
After that will be the next book in Twisted Fairy Tales, I think, but there are several other projects I want to tackle so you never know. I have a serial I’m working on so that might be the next thing available.

What book are you reading now?

Right now I’m reading Dracula by Bram Stoker, A Love of Vengeance by Nancy Haviland and Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Yup, I’m one of those.

What is in your to read pile?

Oh gosh, that list is LONG.

Here’s a quick summary:

If I Stay – Gayle Forman
Insanity – Cameron Jace
Gypsy Soul – JC Gordon
The Raven Boys – Maggie Stiefvater
Descendant – Toni Kerr

Quill was born and raised as a cold killer who takes enjoyment from the kill. Nero is the son of a Viking and a 1500-year-old vampire whose never been denied his pleasures before.

Until he meets Quill. He forces her to exchange her life for Rose’s, his indentured servant and Quill’s little sister. Excerpt 2:

She moved through the crowd, following the Lieutenants with her eyes to ensure they didn’t go anywhere as she crossed to them. Nearly there, she stepped through two bodies and almost collided right into someone’s chest. She stumbled back, her face screwing up into a glower.

“Excuse me.” She said sharply, turning herself to try and go past him, but he only stepped back in her way.

“I saw how you play pool…”

“Listen.” She said, looking up at him finally and stopping short for a moment. He was gorgeous. Easily the best looking guy she’d ever seen in all the guys she’d ever seen - and she’d been around a lot of guys. His jaw was chiseled so sharply under smooth alabaster skin, full rosy lips that seemed to pucker naturally and his eyes were so deep she felt like she was falling to the bottom of an ocean. His hair was brown, maybe even black it was so dark, and hung longer in the front than some guys felt comfortable wearing it, but it suited him so much.

He seemed to wait, patiently listening for whatever she was going to attempt to tell him but her brain had completely stalled and she’d forgotten where the clutch was.

“Listen?” He prompted, raising an eyebrow to silently ask her to continue.

“Yeah. Listen…” She wasn’t nearly as cold and to the point as she had been before. “I’m here on business…” The words were sticky on her tongue and it took way too much effort to get them out. Slow to start but once they started to come back she shook herself from her reverie. This was ridiculous why was she fawning over this stranger?

“I’m here on business and whatever lame pick up line you were going to attempt on me I’m not interested. So you need to fuck off because I’m busy.”

“Well, that’s rude.” He said with bemusement as she peered around him, noting that the Lieutenants were getting up and getting ready to leave.

“Maybe but it’s also presumptuous of you to come over here and make some cringe-worthy statement about how I’m so good with balls and I’m welcome to play with yours.”

“And who said I was going to let you anywhere near my balls? Do I look like I have a death wish?”

Her eyes finally flicked back to him, somewhat taken aback that he wasn’t coming on to her. That was arrogant of her and she felt foolish for thinking it immediately but then one look in those eyes and she didn’t care.

“No…” She said dreamily, another frown forming in the middle of her forehead. “I have to go…” She protested weakly.

“Mmm, I’m sure you do.”

“I do.” She insisted, tearing her eyes painfully away from him. The Lieutenants were getting away.

“Now get the hell out of my way.” She tried to shoulder him out of the way, but it was like slamming her shoulder into a rock. Her body ached from the force she exerted and the minimal reward she’d gotten. She glanced up at him once more, imagining for a moment the state of his body underneath those clothes for him to be so hard.

Publisher: ARe Books

Date of Publication: July 1, 2015

ISBN: 9781943576166

Word Count: 20,000

Cover Artist: Erin Dameron Hill

Book Description:

He always wanted a bear to keep him warm at night…

Lane knows want he wants in a lover, but hasn’t been able to find the perfect bear of a man in his small Colorado hometown. So he turns to the Grizzly List, a regional personal ad service for bears and their lovers. He’s not sure what to expect when he meets Fin, but what he gets might be his perfect man.

Bear shifter Fin has been looking for someone with whom to spend his days, nights, and winter hibernation. He’s a happy guy, but needs someone who wants a big, burly, slightly dominant mate. When he meets Lane, Fin knows he’s found what he needs, but will he be able to convince Lane that they’re made for one another, in human form and bear?

Excerpt:

Bear wanted for cute bottom. Looking for 30-40yo bear, ddf, kind but firm. Seeking companionship/ relationship. Want to cook for you, cuddle, and explore physical possibilities. Hairy a must, uncut a plus. Send photos and response to inbox 4125.

Finley bit his lower lip, trying to decide if he should reply or not.
He hadn’t had the world’s best luck with personal ads. This was his first try on the Grizzly List, which his friend Egan assured him would be way better than Craigslist. They specialized in getting bears together with men who loved them.
Oh, it wasn’t that Fin didn’t want to have sex, but every ad he’d answered so far was just from someone who wanted a quick hookup, and they all wanted him to wear a leather harness and spank them.
That was an awful lot of work. Fin liked the idea of cuddling, and of someone pampering him a little. God knew he loved to play the hot and heavy game, but that came later. He hoped the guy who placed this ad really liked to cook, and maybe knew how to make a honey cake.
Oh, honey.
Fin attached two pictures of himself from the neck down, with his swim trunks on, and added a tiny message.
Love to cuddle, watch movies, hang out in the hot tub. Hairy, uncut, looking for long-term. Let’s meet.
His cheeks heated just typing “uncut” but that was the truth, and what this cute guy seemed to want, so what the heck? Fin took a deep breath and hit send, because he’d left his phone number in there, too. Wow. Okay.
Here went another try. He hoped it worked out better than the last few. If it didn’t, well, there was always hibernation.

Excerpt:

Leaving the truck, he unhitched the cart. It was colder up here, but his lion didn’t mind. Conall sniffed the area, made sure no unsuspecting humans were going to get the scare of a lifetime, and shifted into a massive African lion. The harness he and Sampson rigged up last night worked perfectly. He slipped it over his head, resting it on his shoulders. The lion started his trek up the mountains, having memorized the map.
It was all too easy to let his mind wander, to think about absolutely nothing except for where his paws would land with the next step. The walking path to the cabin was clear if you knew to look for the notches in the trees. He could travel like this all day and not get bored, never tire. Being in the wilderness liberated his lion; the burden he carried behind him only added a minor challenge to his muscular frame.
This was exactly what he needed.
The next four hours passed slowly and quietly, a vast change from the chaos of the last few weeks. For the first time in a long time, he turned off his brain and let his lion dominate his actions. His wide paws navigated the terrain with no problems. His ears alerted him to the movement of the forest creatures and his nose picked up the various scents of nature. Conall lost himself into his lion and his human counterpart took a well-needed mental nap.
Then he heard an angel.
The voice echoed around the woods and he froze with one paw off the ground. His feline ears perked up. After living with Vivian Blake, diva extraordinaire, for five years, he knew musical talent when he heard it. Vivian had the most beautiful voice he’d ever heard…until right then. Closing his eyes, he crouched down, still as death, to listen. The notes rose and fell flawlessly on pitch and with incredible ease. Her range was awe-inspiring. His breath caught in his throat as he listened to her build up to a note so high and delicate, it caused his heart to soar in anticipation. The emotion of the words, the love conveyed in every measure resonated in his chest. Tendrils of melody wrapped around him, gripping him tighter with every beat. Had he been in human form, he might have fallen to his knees. As it was, the four legs of his lion shook with the driving need to get closer to the source of such mesmerizing singing.
He took cautious steps over the crest of the hill to look upon the cottage set snugly among the evergreens. Green tin roof and logs made from local timber provided camouflage. Smoke rose from the chimney; the smell traveling the air currents was divine. Three chairs rocked on the porch, pushed by the invisible hands of the wind. Although the coming winter cold had scared them away, it was clear the cottage was usually framed with flowers. A brown picket fence protected a garden. He envisioned Snow White singing to the forest creatures as they scuttled around her feet.
Ha, he thought. Any moment now, some old woman would come outside with a radio in her hand.
He didn’t want the fantasy to end. The lion closed his eyes and let the gentle voice wash over him. Peace settled in his chest, a heavy weight dissolved from his shoulders. The notes infiltrated his veins and he felt absolutely drunk with contentment. Her love song pierced him and eased each breath he took.
Incredible…
The notes cut off as soon as the wind shifted.

“Who’s there?” chimed an angelic voice. His singer.
