I Wish I'd Never Met You by Tanith Davenport

Top Ten Erotic Books

I wondered about this for a long time. Should I be thinking of erotic classics, or just the ones which worked best for me? In the end I decided on the second option, because what the hell, I just have some particular books - or shorts, because the length doesn't much matter - which I really like.

And they may be weird, but then so am I, apparently.

1) Lady Chatterley's Lover - D. H. Lawrence. Probably the only classic I enjoyed. While some might argue it's not that erotic, it being a little vague in parts (the anal sex scene especially so) I see it as a forerunner of the erotic genre. Plus I'm a sucker for a hot gamekeeper with a Northern accent.

2) Stacy's Dad Has Got It Going On - Giselle Renarde. From classic to hell of a lot of fun. I fell for this the moment I read the title and didn't stop till I'd devoured the whole thing. I'd go for Stacy's hot dad any day of the week.

3) Here Be Sexist Vampires - Suzanne Wright. A surprise for me, as I was expecting a YA vampire novel and found myself reading some of the hottest vamp action I'd ever seen. The entire series is well worth reading, but for me the first is the best.

4) Smut By The Sea - edited by Lucy Felthouse and Victoria Blisse. Yes, I am in this one,    I admit, but it's a collection I love to read. Seaside smut with various twists, all of them hot and all of them imaginative.

5) Hemlock Bones: A Stud in Scarlet - Sarah Masters. A Clandestine Classic version of the Sherlock Holmes story "A Study in Scarlet", this is one I return to over and over for its entirely convincing Holmes/Watson romance.

6) Dracula - Scarlett Parrish and Bram Stoker. Another Clandestine Classic, this time of one of my favourite novels of all time. The sex scenes in this merge seamlessly with the original text and never disappoint.

7) Naked - Eliza Redgold. This one was another surprise. I went in expecting a twist on the historical Lady Godiva story and was confronted with a heat level that went through the roof. Definitely hot and definitely readable.

8) Fifty Shades of Grey - E. L. James. Yes, I know what you're thinking. But it brought erotic romance back into the minds of the public, not to mention on the shelves of Asda, and I'm always one to back a trailblazer.

9) Gavin's Child - Caroline Cross. I had many ideas about Mills and Boon before I read this book, very few of them good. I was wrong. While it's still in some ways a product of its time, it introduced me into a world of romance I hadn't expected, and that's always a good thing. Plus it has a hero to die for.

10) A Fistful of Emmett - Jambrea Jo Jones. My introduction to modern-day erotica, not to mention to M/M cowboy erotica. What's not to love?

Book Description:

Flick Lindenwood, fresh from college, has returned home to the suburban haven of Green Valley, back to society…and the source of her heartbreak. Four years ago Elodie Hamilton savagely broke her heart, and Flick has no intention of letting her pretty ex get back under her skin. As far as she’s concerned, she and Elodie never happened.

But Elodie has other ideas.

Afraid to come out, Elodie chose to destroy her relationship with Flick rather than let her family know who she was. But now she wants to right the wrong she did—if she can only find the nerve, and if she can convince Flick to see past the pain she caused.

Excerpt:
The door of the Dodge Charger slammed behind her as Flick Lindenwood walked up the driveway to the house, dragging her wheeled suitcase after her.
It was exactly as she remembered. Pansies and tulips bloomed in the borders of the front garden, edging an elegantly mown lawn. In front of her stood the house, two stories rising behind a large veranda, a curtain twitching in one of the windows.
Before she reached the front door, it opened to reveal her mother. Flick let the handle of the case go and stepped forward to meet her in a hug.
“Felicity, darling! We’ve been waiting all morning.”
“Sorry, Mom. Traffic.”
Her mother stepped back, smiling, and looked her up and down. Flick bore the scrutiny patiently. She had a new haircut and outfit which had yet to receive maternal approval.
Apparently they did. Her mother pulled her back in for another hug. “You look lovely, darling. Oh, it’s so good to see you. I’ve got so many things to tell you—I’ve been organizing your graduation party, and then there’s the Saulters’ barbecue tomorrow, and—”
“All right, all right!” Flick broke in, laughing. “Let me get in first!”
She followed her mother into the entrance hall, noticing that the lounge door was open on her left. Through the doorway she could see her graduation photograph taking pride of place on the marble mantelpiece, blocking off part of the gold-edged mirror.

“Don’t be long,” Mrs. Lindenwood added airily as Flick made her way toward the staircase. “I want to hear everything. Have you met any nice girls?”
