Poetry: Nightmare Fairytale #poetryrocks

Nightmare Fairytale
By Wenona Napolitano

Where is my knight to take me away?
No one, nothing but loneliness
in my crumbling castle

Outside the shadows stalk me
Teasing, taunting I hear them whisper,
“Come out princess”

I wasted forever dreaming of him
The hero that never came
to save me

For so long I was waiting for him
Watching for him every day in the tower,
until I fell

softly into madness, long hair heavy burden
practicality turning it into a rope
to hang myself

Contemplating death as emptiness was murmuring
into insane ears that heard no reason
to live

Finally awaking from the nightmare
Forget the knight and reach for the day
It was time to design

My own happy ending
