1. Tell us a little about
your latest or upcoming release.
This is
my first novel, Hot, Wet, Smooth, and Hard. It follows our protag, Melody
Brooding-cum-Song as she tries to reconnect with the person she once was before
a terrible marriage and messy divorce. Of course, she goes back to the home and
man she abandoned years prior, and finds that both are threatened by forces of
nature and man. Which means that Melody will need to dig deep into herself to
find the strength to protect them both. It’s basically a modern version of the
classic romances I read as a young woman, with a slightly higher pace to the
story, and stakes for the characters.
2. Have you ever based your
book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?
Oh my
yes! Being a Floridian I’ve dealt with all kinds of hurricanes and ill-meaning
people, both of which are found in Hot, Wet, Smooth, and Hard. I’ve also
reconnected with one particular love interest from my past a few years back,
which is also a major plot point. I say, write what you know, otherwise the
words will just ring untrue.
3. Is there a theme or
message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?
Theme is
so important to a novel. And to clarify, there’s what a book’s about, and then
there’s what a book’s about. The
first one is plot, but that second one is theme. I like broad and inspirational
themes, myself, especially those dealing with rebirth. We all make mistakes,
some big, some small, but being human is a long race, not a sprint, and we all
have the power to define who we are, and what are story is about. It doesn’t
matter about your bank account, your past mistakes, or how you were raised. We
can always seize our own destinies, and make them shine!!!
Or, to
quote Tom Robbins, “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”
4. What would your readers be
surprised to learn about you?
I love
target shooting! While I’m not the biggest fan of people walking around with
guns wherever they please, I do understand the love of archery and
marksmanship. I’ve been blessed with a rough and tumble family who nurtured my
interests, and shooting (rifles and bows) is one of those things that just
centers me.
5. Of all the characters
you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?
Melody
Song, of course! She has a lot of my own flaws, and I really admire how she deals
with them, and eventually overcomes them. The thing about characters is they
have to be imperfect, or they’ll come across fake. So I put my own insecurities
into her, and just watched how she’d handle them. Frankly, I was very impressed
and inspired. Will I do the same in my life? Only time will tell…
6. If this book is part of a
series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?
Craving Cove is technically a
series, but not in the sequel/prequel style. All of the stories that take place
there are stand alone, and the only thing they share in common are either
location, or Craving Cove is their hometown. The next book is one I’m very
excited about. It’s called “Gunner Briggs.” And it follows Knox’s friend Gunner
as he chases after the love of his life. Unfortunately for him, she’s just
travelled to Panama looking for her missing sister, who was last seen
investigating the local crime syndicates for her paper. Oh, did I mention he’s
an ex-Seal and a wolf shifter? It’s hot, sexy, and very exciting. I think the
scenes and sequels really work well together! Coming in January!!!
