Meet Liam from Wellington Letters by Cheryl R. Lane

Hi!  I’m Cheryl R. Lane, and I am the author of two romance series:  the historical romance Wellington Cross Series and the paranormal romance Angel series.  Today I’d like to discuss one of the characters from my new book, Wellington Letters, book six in the Wellington Cross Series.  His name is Liam.

Liam Brown is the oldest child of Ginny and Dr. William Brown.  Liam was born in 1874 and is twenty-four years old in this book.  He lives at the boarding house called Adams House in the small town of Charles City, Virginia.  Adams House is owned by his cousin Belle Wellington-Adams and her husband Jason.  Liam works in his parents' Medical Clinic and Apothecary, which he runs by himself on the weekends when his parents travel out to their plantation, The Forest Plantation.  Liam is sweet on the housemaid at Adams House, a Spanish lady named Isabel, but she won’t give him the time of day.  Yet when war breaks out in Cuba against Spain, Isabel and Liam start writing letters to each other when Liam enters the war.  He joins Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders and heads to Texas for training, where he is surprised to find a college buddy who has also joined the war effort.  Liam eventually finds himself in the jungles of Cuba where he encounters exhaustion, bullets, death, disease, and surprisingly, love.  He continues to write Isabel and ends up finding her long-lost family.  The war is brief, but troubles follow him on the ship back to America.  If he survives, he hopes to end up with the woman he loves.

You can learn more about Liam in Wellington Beaus where he visits his cousin Godfrey on his plantation and considers moving there.  He also attends a family ball and a garden wedding.

Meanwhile back at home at The Forest Plantation in Charles City, Virginia, his father Dr. William Brown reads Liam's letters to the family and is reminded of a story from the War Between the States.

This story involves his cousin Judy being a spy and how she fell in love with a Union soldier. As William tells the story to his family, a secret is revealed that even his wife Ginny doesn't know about.

About the Author:

Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia.

She started writing as a hobby when she was in college after purchasing a couple of Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of beautiful old plantation homes. She used to sit outside in her backyard and type on a manual typewriter at a picnic table under tall maple trees.

She continued writing after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. She has been working in medical and now legal transcription while writing on the side, and finally decided to self-publish her first novel in December 2012.  She enjoys the freedom and creativity of self-publishing.

She loves being outside in nature and her hobbies include visiting historical homes and gardens, reading, traveling, exercising, and going to the beach.  She is still married to her sweetheart after 29 years, and they have one son who is an actor and a Havanese bichon.
