Welcome!
First and foremost, thank you so much
for hosting me! I am delighted to be here.
Please share a little about yourself, your genres,
any other pen names you use.
I have written four
books and am currently working on my fifth. I am published by Tracey McDonald
Publishers and I also indie publish select titles. The genres that I write are
dystopian, SFF and contemporary romance. I don’t use any pen names – building
one author brand is hard enough without the added effort of promoting different
pseudonyms.
Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming
release.
I am currently working on the final
book in The Legacy Trilogy, which is being re-released by my publisher in July
2014. The Traveler, my latest release is a sci-fi romance. Rachel met Dex seven
years ago and fell head over heels in love with him. He left her devestated but
now, Dex is back, and this time he is not alone. He has brought a formidable
army – their sole purpose, to conquer Earth. Amidst the chaos of a raging,
burning city, Rachel finds Dex, and together they try to end a war that
threatens to obliterate mankind.
Are you a mom ?
Am
I!! I have three beautiful but naughty children, aged 7, 4 and 2. I adore them,
but they keep me busy!
If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and
parenting?
I did before, when I was still working
full time. Now, I am fortunate enough to have a perfect balance. The only time
I struggle now is if I am on a deadline.
Have you ever based your book or characters on
actual events or people from your own life?
Yes, aspects of it. Nothing concrete,
but there are similarities that only I would recognize.
Is there a theme or message in your work that you
would like readers to connect to?
That women are
strong and capable. All my female leads are courageous and feisty, although
they are still feminine.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about
you?
I don’t like sushi and I can’t walk in
heels!
(huh, I don't like sushi either and walking in heels outs my life in jeopardy LOL)
When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have
any hobbies or guilty pleasures?
Writing is my job,
my hobby and my guilty pleasure. When I’m not indulging in writing, I am being
mommy. On the rare occasion I find the time, I do like to have a good pedicure.
I also can’t survive without my favorite tv series!
Which book or series do you wish you had written?
Harry
Potter, 50 Shades of Grey, The Hunger Games, Twilight. I don’t think that there
is an author in the world who wouldn’t want that success. I would like to
become a writer like James Patterson, though, who has not stopped writing and
continues to produce new books every year, despite having made his fortune.
Writing is a calling, and I don’t see myself ever giving it up, although my
genre and style may develop and change over time.
Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that
you haven’t tackled yet?
No. I love SFF, and the
occasional contemporary romance. At this point, I will continue to write in
these genres. That being said, writers are people, and people change as they
get older. So I may well migrate into other genre’s in the future.
Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is
your favorite and why?
Rebecca Davis, the protagonist of The
Legacy Trilogy, is nearest to my heart because I have invested so much time and
energy into her character. I also loved writing the character of Dex in The
Traveler, because he is dark, brooding and cruel, but at the same time his
capacity for compassion and his bravery is inspiring.
If this book is part of a series…what is the next
book? Any details you can share?
The next book will
be released later this year, and follows Dex and Rachel’s journey to Venon.
Amarox will also play a bigger part in the sequel.
What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled
upcoming releases or works in progress?
As I
mentioned, the final book in the Legacy Trilogy, entitled The Legend is due for
release early 2015.
I hope to have it finished by early September and then I will begin working on
the sequel to The Traveler. I also have a fantasy series that will release next
year. I am fortunate enough that I am quite prolific in my output and I am able
to release two new titles per annum.
What book are you reading now?
Sadly, I do not read at all if I am in the middle of a
project. You would be surprised at how easily influenced you are by other
books. Originality is too important to me to risk it, so I play it safe and
avoid fiction when I’m writing.
What is in your to read pile?
The Fault in our Stars, Allegiant, Making Faces.

About the Author:
Wife, mother of 3, businesswoman by day and author by night, Melissa Delport is the author of The Legacy Series and Rainfall. She graduated from the University of South Africa with a Bachelors Degree in English in 2000. She currently lives with her husband and three children in Hillcrest, South Africa.
Her first novel, The Legacy, published in 2013, is the first in The Legacy Series trilogy, and is followed by the sequel The Legion. The final book, The Legend is due out in 2014. She has also written an independent novel entitled Rainfall, a psychological romance, and a science-fiction, action-adventure called The Traveler.
An avid reader herself, Melissa finally decided to stop “watching from the sidelines” and to do what is her passion.
“I was driving home from work when inspiration struck, and a storyline started unravelling in my head. For a few days, it was all I could think about and eventually I realised that the only way to get it out of my head, was to put it all down on paper. I started writing, and that was that.”
