Please
share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thank you for having me on the blog, I'm excited to
be here!
Maria Hammarblad used to be my real name, until I
married and became Maria Sadowski a little over a year ago. I still use
Hammarblad for pen name, though. Changing my author name would just confuse
people. I mostly write science fiction romance, but also some contemporary
works and short stories.
Tell
us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
My latest release is called Undercover. It's about a
quite ordinary and slightly naïve young woman who stumbles into danger when she
falls in love with an enigmatic foreigner. She chooses love before safety, and
will have to travel the world to stay alive and protect her loved ones.
Are
you a mom (or parent)?
No children. I mean, I have dogs and call them my
babies, but I suspect it's much easier to raise dogs than kids.
Have
you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own
life?
I don't normally do that, but Undercover has a lot
in common with real life. The main characters and their story are made up, of
course, but several of the side characters are based on real people. Jenny's
job (Jenny is the heroine of Undercover) is based on something I used to do,
her house resembles one where I used to live, and so on. I just moved
everything to a more convenient location.
When
you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?
When I'm not writing, I usually wish I had more time
to write, hahaha! I go to school in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree, and I work
at Pet Doors USA. Luckily I only have a few more classes to go until I
graduate, and not having homework will make life easier.
I love dogs, we have three of our own and one foster
dog, and if I have time I help out at a local rescue. Lately, it's been more
symbolic assistance than hands-on help, but hopefully I'll be able to do more
for them in the not too distant future.
Hobby-wise, I play the bass, and I like to shoot
paper zombies with air guns. It sounds a little quirky in writing, but it's
really a lot of fun.
Is
there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that you haven’t tackled yet?
I would love to write a fantasy epic filled with
wizards, magic swords, and a grand mystery to solve. Thus far I haven't gotten
around to it, but maybe in the future.
Of
all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?
My favorite is Stephan Forks in the Goddess's Saga.
He has human flaws, but he tries so hard, and life (umm, me, I guess, lol)
makes him carry a heavy burden. This is a series of three novels and I want to
re-write them, I've learned so much from the wonderful editors at Desert Breeze
Publishing, but I haven't had the focus to sit down and do it. It's on my to-do
list, just not at the top right now.
What
is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?
I have a lot coming up, actually. In December there
will be a little freebee called "Courage and Retribution." This is a
short prequel to my science fiction novel Kidnapped. After that I have three
releases scheduled for 2013; a contemporary suspense called Flashback in June,
a science fiction romance called Operation Earth in August, and a still
un-named science fiction project for December 2013. I'm thinking of making a
freebee for Undercover as well. It will be a fun and busy year!
What
book are you reading now?
I'm reading the first book in the Time After Time
series by Tami Dee and Lynette Endicott. It's about a line of women cursed
through the generations. I've read almost half, and it's imaginative and
exciting. Can't wait to see what happens!
What
is in your to read pile?
I was reading Beyond Hades by Luke Romyn, but got
sidetracked, and I want to finish it. Next on the list after that are The
Faberge Secret by Stephanie Burkhart, The Faithful Heart by Merry Farmer, and
The Twelve by Justin Cronin.

Book Description:
When Jenny Moore meets Alexei Roshenko, it's love at first sight. The tall, dark and handsome stranger appears to be the answer to every romantic fantasy any woman ever had. There is however more to him than meets the eye, and a dark and violent past is catching up with him. When Jenny decides to follow him back to Russia, she gets entangled in a web of deceit and secrets beyond her wildest imagination.
Born in Sweden in the early 1970's, Maria showed a large interest for books at an early age. Even before she was able to read or write, she made her mom staple papers together into booklets she filled with drawings of suns and planets. She proudly declared them, "The Sun Book." They were all about the sun. She also claimed, to her mother's horror, that her being on Earth was a big mistake and that her alien family would come and bring her home at any moment. This never happened, but both the interest in space and the passion for bookmaking stayed with her.
As an adult Maria's creativity got an outlet through playing bass in a number of rock bands, and through writing technical manuals and making web pages for various companies and organizations. She did write drafts for a few novels, but the storytelling muse was mostly satisfied through role playing online on Myspace. It was here, while writing stories together with people from around the globe, she stumbled onto Mike. They started talking out of character, and she moved over to Florida to him late 2008. Today the two are married and live in the Tampa Bay area with three rescue dogs.
Besides writing and playing bass, Maria enjoys driving off-road, archery, and Tameshigiri.
