Seriously. That’s where I found the above quote.
Regardless of the strange place that I stumbled upon the quote, the thought hit home with me.
Publishing is a series of highs and lows. Sometimes sales are great and reviews are awesome. But other times sales are slow and the reviews are negative. It’s at those times that I begin to wonder, “What am I doing? Why am I in this business?” I begin to wonder why I’ve put myself ‘out there.’ Writing is so very personal. I pour my heart and soul into my books. Because of this, negative reviews can feel as though someone is ripping your heart out!
But, what if I had never published because of fear of failure? Because of fear of bad reviews or no sales? It would’ve been a shame, that’s what! Sometimes we have to just ‘go for it’ in life. Nearly all of my reviews have been wonderful, more than I’d ever imagined. If I’d never reached for my dreams and published, I never would’ve known of the enjoyment someone else received because of something I wrote! (which still blows me away, BTW!)
What do you want to do with your life? Do you have a dream, a goal, an unfulfilled aspiration? Don’t let fear hold you back. Even if you fail, at least you tried! The truth is: never trying is when we fail!
