Alisse Lee Goldenburg Juggles Toddler Triplets and Writing- Interview and Giveaway

Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.

The Strings of the Violin is a Young Adult Fantasy novel based on Eastern European folklore, in which three young girls from our world are asked to be the champions of the magical world of Hadariah. In Hadariah, Asmodeus, the king of the dybbuks has stolen the strings of a magical violin whose music gives life to everyone and everything. Without this music, the world is slowly dying, so it is up to these three girls to stop him and save everybody.

Are you a mom ?

I am a mother of triplets, two boys and one girl. They are currently two and a half years old and are named Joseph, Phillip, and Hailey. They are a constant source of inspiration for what I do.

If yes do you find it hard to juggle writing and parenting?

It is getting harder to do so, but I try my best to keep a balance in my life. I find I do more and more of my writing at night, which is great for my productivity, but horrible for my sleep cycles!

Have you ever based your book or characters on actual events or people from your own life?

I have. In my novel The Strings of the Violin I make no secret that the main characters: Carrie, Lindsay, and Rebecca are based on dear friends of mine that I had growing up. What’s great about it is that we are still friends now, and I was a bridesmaid at two of their weddings fairly recently! They know who they are, and they think it’s quite funny that they made their way into my book.

Is there a theme or message in your work that you would like readers to connect to?

I think that the themes of friendship being a true source of strength, and the idea that we have to respect where we came from are things that I would love for readers to take away from this book. In it the characters really have a bit of a struggle to connect with their backgrounds and remember the old stories that make up their cultural history. This is something that I think anyone can connect to and learn from.

Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?

I love writing the character of Lindsay. She is kind of like a weird mashup of these two friends of mine who are absolutely fearless about expressing exactly who they are. Neither of them fear being judged for just being themselves and I love that about them. I think that she exhibits this quality, and it is so much fun to write someone who doesn’t fear being silly, or goofy around other people.

If this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?

This book is a part of a series. The next book The Dybbuk’s Mirror, is being edited and polished as we speak and will be sent off to the publisher real soon! I can’t divulge too much, but know that it will be quite the wild ride!

What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?

I have a traditional YA Fantasy novel coming out at the end of the month with Pandamoon Publishing called Sitnalta. I am very excited for this one. It follows a young princess who has to make some hard choices to escape the clutches of her overbearing and tyrannical father. For more information, check out my website www.alisseleegoldenberg.com

Book Description:
Seventeen-year-old Carrie is lying in her backyard ignoring all the looming responsibilities in her life, when a fox makes a mad dash across the grass in front of her. After she manages to keep her dog from attacking the frightened animal, the fox turns to Carrie and seems to bow in gratitude before he disappears into the bushes. All Carrie knows in that moment is that something has unexpectedly changed in her life.
Carrie has been best friends with Lindsay Smith and Rebecca Campbell for years. During a summer when they should focus on choosing colleges, the girls suddenly find themselves swept away on the adventure of their lives.
The fox reappears three days later and reveals to Carrie that he is Adom, emissary to the king of Hadariah. With his land of music and magic in peril, Adom has been sent to seek help from Carrie and her friends. In the blink of an eye, the three teenage girls go from living an average suburban life to being the champions of a world where they must contend with giants, witches, and magical beings. Will they ever make it home once more?
