Please
share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
My name is Abi and I live in Devon, England. I've
had a mixed collection of jobs from scarer. where I get paid for scaring people
in a local cave, to retail, to receptionist, to teacher and then to care
worker. I studied Archaeology in Lampeter, Wales and completed a BA and MA. It
was my love of archaeology and classical civilization that helped me create my
books as they are, on some level, connected to archaeology or history.
My main
genres that I write in are fantasy, sci-fi and YA, but I have branched out into
romance, action and horror from time to time too. As of yet I don't have a pen
name that I've published in but I may do in the future.
Tell
us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
My latest book, Loving In Time, follows the epic
journey of Helen Xenakis, the modern day Helen of Sparta from Homer's Iliad.
She meets seven guards from the past who have sworn to protect her from the
evil soldiers, the Decurion, who have sworn to kill her as its Helen who is the
only one who can break a continuous devastating cycle that guards started when
they were granted the gift of the Gods; which was time.
I started
Loving In Time (LIT) in 2011 for a competition and came runner-up. To compete
in the competition, I had to start and finish a novel within three months. I
had already participated in NaNoWriMo in 2010 and managed to finish on time, so
I took up the challenge and wrote something that I love about archaeology with
its own modern-day twist. LIT is the first in a series that my fans have dubbed
the "In Time" series. Though my publishers only wanted the first book
to be published, I am determined for the other four to be published also.
What
would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
I have dyslexia and have had trouble with my writing
since I started. Editors, agents, publishers... no one really understands the
difficulties surrounding it. It's something that I have to push past on a daily
basis, but I've used it to be extremely creative. It's a win-win.
When
you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures?
Hobbies when not writing is either reading or baking
or playing the piano, if I have time. I have 4 jobs at the moment and writing
isn't one of them. Soon I'll be down to two. But I'll have time to breathe and
get back into my reading and baking.
Which
romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish
you had written?
I think I'd like to have written The Hunger Games, they are amazing books and I loved the concept
as one of my favourite horror films is Battle
Royale. I would have liked to have written them because I would have loved
to have given Katniss a more, "Let's sort this out" attitude. I like
strong character leads and Katniss could have been a good role model for those
who are struggling in their lives. The romance in there could have been so much
more and I would have loved to have understood Katniss and Peeta a little bit
more than the books had shown.
Of
all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?
I love writing Dom. He is slightly based on someone
I know, so it was fun trying to capture my friend's personality and tweak it to
write Dom. With that character I found that you could take him anywhere and put
him in any situation and he'd come out looking like the good guy. He also has
an interesting personality which shines more through the second book.
If
this book is part of a series…what is the next book? Any details you can share?
The next book has been written, its called Journey
In Time and the entire book (plus spelling mistakes) is on Wattpad for all to
read for free. I only have the next 3 books planned out. My fans call this the
"In Time" series, but the publisher only wanted to publish the first
book.
What
book are you reading now?
Currently I'm reading The Well of Ascension by
Brandon Sanderson. It's a brilliant book and series. Epic doesn't cover it.
What
is in your to read pile?
The Hero of Ages, The Lovely Bones, Seven Ancient Wonders,
The Help, The Strain, The Notebook, Dead Man's Folly, and The Desert Spear. All
by amazing and talented authors.

Book Description:
Living in New England, half Greek half American high school student, Helen, lives a relatively normal life; a mother and father and two bratty younger twin brothers. But it all changes when her mother welcomes two strange but devilishly cute boys, Marcus and Gus, into the house and into Helen’s life.
While the boys live with Helen, they help her discover that she is far from normal and she is, in fact, part of an ancient Grecian love story that has stretched to every corner of the world. She is Helen of Sparta from the myth, Helen of Troy. The boys however, ask a difficult favour from her, to leave her modern family and go back in time to help break an ancient cycle.
Given the ability to stop time and travel into centuries past, she and her new friends, Marcus and Gus, are joined by five other boys who try and protect Helen from the evil Decurion soldiers; ancient time travellers who wish to stop Helen from breaking the cycle.
Journeying to Ancient Greece, Helen must act as she once had but when the moment the war begins and Helen must break the cycle, she is given a life changing decision. The question is, will she choose wisely?
About the Author:

Winning joint runner-up, she continued to write a number of other books ranging from sci-fi, to fantasy and action and a year later, while she was in South Korea teaching English, found a publisher. Kirk, who is Editor in Chief for a fantasy and sci-fi magazine, Kingdom of Fantasy, loves nothing more than to write interesting and unique stories with unusual plot-twists. After gaining a Masters in Social Archaeology at Lampeter University, Wales, Kirk uses her research skills to describe, in vivid detail, the ancient locations in her books. Kirk's passions in archaeology shines through in Loving In Time, her first published novel.
