Writing with Kids - Guest Blog with Kellie M Davies #PNR #paranormalromance

I thought this topic was particularly timely, my six year old daughter has just had a Bronchial cough and high temperatures for the last eight days ... and has been at home with me. Now the thing is, this would have been a fine arrangement if my child wasn’t high demand ... but she is and that’s that. I knew last week, when she started coughing that I was in trouble and quickly tried finishing off any urgent work I had scheduled, put aside the two manuscripts I‘m currently working on and pushed any housework to the forefront - well, at least I was going to get something done!

It’s never that simple with kids and a working life though.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore my little pumpkin but it truly is a given – when you’re at your busiest the spot fires will start, multiply and rage until the proper response is launched.

This was my entire last week, a series of red-hot episodes and strategies of how I was to deal with them, all the while keeping a constant eye on a child who barked like a seal, day and night, and battled a virus with temperatures that often made her sweat through two lots of sheets a day - paracetamol aside.

And all from home!

The phone ran hot, my email constantly pinged its presence, and my overheated child demanded.

“Mum, the Barbie show has finished.”

“Mum, can I have something to eat?”

“Mum, it’s too hot.”

“Mum, I’m too cold, can I have another blanket?”

“Mum, my tummy/eye/head/leg/foot/arm/hand ... now hurts!”

“Muuuummmmmm.”

... and this went on day ... and ... night, until yesterday.

As I sit at my local cafĂ©, writing this blog – child now well and back at school - I think of how the last week had reminded me of just how much of a juggle the parent life is ... and how quickly and readily we will adapt to a change of pace, extra balls and a different rhythm to get our jobs done.

Teaser Excerpt:

All three witches took their places. Dana stood in the north quarter in front of the alter stretching her hands out for the twins to take in theirs. She pressed on their hands and they all smiled at each other. Abi winked in my direction and my pulse quickened.

The ritual, my initiation ritual, was about to begin.
