My journey as an author was always based on juggling family life and writing. I started my first book on maternity leave, completed it the year after throughout full-time work.
A year and a half later, I wrote Prophecy of a Vampire on my second round of maternity leave.
Basically, I do all the family duties up until the kids are in bed, and once my husband gives me all is clear sign, I head into my study to write. On weekends, I am very lucky as my husband will set time to take the kids out so I can work in peace and quiet but in saying that I still get involved and do all the family things too.
I think that the juggle isn’t too difficult for a few reasons and that it comes down to how my husband and I explained to the kids that I am writing a book and it’s important to give me space.
They see me type, see the books when they arrive and even decorate the study with pictures, so it’s an easy transition to having them be part of my writing and giving me the space and time to work.
The full-time job part is tricky as some days I can come home braindead and that’s dangerous because I can be out of writing mojo or writing juice!
It also cut in my time for marketing and promotional materials that I work on for the books. In saying that, I’m a night owl so I just put as much effort as I can in doing work after hours.

I give her another
