Writing with Kids- Guest Blog by Mark Towse #Horror #Thriller #Romance #Comedy

I work a regular job in addition to juggling a family and trying to find time to write.

It is challenging, to say the least, almost every minute accounted for. My son, Adam, is older, so he's no bother. My daughter, Sophie, is 14 years old and a social butterfly, so I often find myself doubling as her taxi driver. She never tips (or pays, for that matter), and the conditions are terrible.

The only way I can approach this writing business with a level of sanity is to timetable everything. Now, I cannot dip in and out an hour at a time. For me, putting out my best work is all about immersing myself in magic world, giving myself to the sights, scents, and people who surround me. It generally takes me an hour to cross back into that other world, so I'll only sit at my desk if I have at least a three-hour chunk available. I'm all in or all out, and I can't fake it. Sometimes, you might find me sitting in the same spot for sixteen hours, although it always feels like a hot minute.

Scheduling is key. Providing transparency of the timetable to the family is just as important.

All that said, I'm very fortunate that my wife is a musician. Her passion also consumes her, so we tend not to live in each other's pockets.

It's not easy, but there's a burning need to tell these stories. I'm hooked, an addict, and I'll be weaving such tales until I draw my last breath.

A town on its knees, dread's bony fingers wrapping around its throat and squeezing, death rattles soon to follow.

Drugs, filth, and a lack of human decency are starving it of hope.

Introducing Simon Dooley, our trauma-driven wannabe superhero, the relentless voice of his dead mother pleading with him to "end the chaos." Dressed in a leotard and armed only with a dozen dog poop bags, Simon's plight will find him falling in love and going head to head with the seediest characters walking the streets.

The town needed a hero... it got Reformo.

About the Author:

Mark Towse is an English horror writer living in Australia. He would sell his soul to the devil or anyone buying if it meant he could write full-time. Alas, he left it very late to begin this journey, penning his first story since primary school at the ripe old age of forty-five. Since then, he's been published in over two hundred journals and anthologies, had his work made into full theatrical productions for shows such as The No Sleep Podcast and Tales to Terrify, and has penned fourteen novellas, including Nana, Gone to the Dogs, 3:33, and Crows. Chasing The Dragon is his debut novel.
