Excerpt:

Power mingled with desire, and they filtered through my bloodstream like an erotic drug. For no other reason than I’d asked, that supersexy soldier had abandoned a table of enthusiastic feminine admirers. For me. Plain, average, sexually adventurous me.

His powerful gait devoured the distance between us, and before I could wrangle my excitement to a manageable level, he towered over me. Had he grown larger on the walk over? If someone dropped him into the Grand Canyon, would he get wedged in at the shoulders?

I couldn’t stop the shivers that raced through me or the goose bumps following in their wake. The hypnotic pull of his baby blues threatened to steal my breath. I opened my mouth, but my brain misfired. Nothing came out except a pathetic squeak. God, was I thirteen again?

Get it the fuck together.

His lips curved into an I-know-something-you-don’t tilt. “I must say, the number of beautiful women at the club has certainly increased since I’ve been gone.”

Beautiful…

His compliment washed over me. I’d never considered myself unattractive, but I didn’t think myself beautiful either. I kept in shape, took care of myself, wore nice clothes, had a kick-ass hairstyle, but beautiful I wasn’t.

Blue Eyes cocked his head to the left, his forehead wrinkling, his eyes focused and intense. “You don’t think you’re beautiful, do you?”

His statement was so matter-of-fact my jaw hinged open and stayed fixed.

Laughter rumbled in his chest, and he tapped his index finger against my bottom lip. “Has anyone ever told you your mouth forms the sexiest ‘O’ when you’re flustered?”

I attempted to shake off his comment. “Flustered? I wasn’t—”

“When I mentioned the increase of beautiful women at the club, you looked pleased to be included in the group, but your shoulders stiffened just a fraction, as if you weren’t able to fully accept the compliment.”

“What the…how did you…what?”

“Why don’t you think you’re beautiful?”

“I think I’m beautiful.” The words came out more defensive than I’d intended.

He shook his head. “Don’t insult my intelligence by lying to me…beautiful.” He emphasized the last word, both with vocal inflection and by crooking his index finger to the underside of my chin and tilting my head so I had no choice but to look at him. “Now, let’s try this again. Why don’t you think you’re beautiful?”

“I, uh. It’s not that I, um, that, that…” Goddamn it. I closed my eyes for a quick moment and gathered my thoughts. “I get cute a lot. Fun, energetic, sexy, but not beautiful. It’s just not a word I associate with myself.”

He nodded, lips curling into a triumphant smile that showed off a sexy-as-hell chin dimple. “There, that wasn’t too hard, was it?”

Yes.

But I shook my head.

He offered me his arm. “Shall we find a seat?”

Excerpt:
Her stare trailed down to my neck. She kept her eyes there. I watched her pupils widen as she took in my shoulders from her periphery. She watched me breathe, watched my pulse through my skin. When she looked in my eyes again, she held her hand out.
“Will you dance with me first, Empress?” she asked. My breath hitched in surprise. No one dared to be this forward with me. I'd always hoped someone would. I didn't know what her intentions were, and yet… “I know. I'm surprising myself by asking this. We've only just met. But I believe you when you say my sister's all right. I want to thank you. This is the best I can come up with for right now.”
I stared at her in disbelief. This woman was too fucking perfect. Smart, resourceful, determined, influential up in her part of the city, and she had a pair? There was no way this was real.
“…is that a no?” she wondered, still holding her hand out to me.
“Just as a thank you?” I asked, brow raised.
Ser Videl smiled like in her picture. “For now,” she said. Her voice deepened just enough to make me hold back a reaction. She saw enough. She saw just enough to feel me and shed a little more light over her meaning: “I can make it more than that if you'd like. If you'd allow it.”
I laughed softly. “Ser Videl, you're attractin' attention,” I pointed out. It was true—people stared, whispering; trying to figure out what this was all about. “I'm the Empress of this place. You don't just ask me to dance like this. Especially when you don't know me. You ain't from here. I'll give you that much. But you've gotta know some kinda rules from guessin'.”
“I assumed you wouldn't let me into your headquarters,” she reminded me. “Then you told me you would have. I guessed you wouldn't dance with me if I asked. I'm asking you in the hopes that you'll make another exception for me.” She stared down at my neck again, breathing harder. When she moved her eyes back to mine, hers darkened, sharpened in deep, lustful focus. “Or is that too much to ask?”

I Wish I'd Never Met You by Tanith Davenport

Top Ten Erotic Books

I wondered about this for a long time. Should I be thinking of erotic classics, or just the ones which worked best for me? In the end I decided on the second option, because what the hell, I just have some particular books - or shorts, because the length doesn't much matter - which I really like.

And they may be weird, but then so am I, apparently.

1) Lady Chatterley's Lover - D. H. Lawrence. Probably the only classic I enjoyed. While some might argue it's not that erotic, it being a little vague in parts (the anal sex scene especially so) I see it as a forerunner of the erotic genre. Plus I'm a sucker for a hot gamekeeper with a Northern accent.

2) Stacy's Dad Has Got It Going On - Giselle Renarde. From classic to hell of a lot of fun. I fell for this the moment I read the title and didn't stop till I'd devoured the whole thing. I'd go for Stacy's hot dad any day of the week.

3) Here Be Sexist Vampires - Suzanne Wright. A surprise for me, as I was expecting a YA vampire novel and found myself reading some of the hottest vamp action I'd ever seen. The entire series is well worth reading, but for me the first is the best.

4) Smut By The Sea - edited by Lucy Felthouse and Victoria Blisse. Yes, I am in this one,    I admit, but it's a collection I love to read. Seaside smut with various twists, all of them hot and all of them imaginative.

5) Hemlock Bones: A Stud in Scarlet - Sarah Masters. A Clandestine Classic version of the Sherlock Holmes story "A Study in Scarlet", this is one I return to over and over for its entirely convincing Holmes/Watson romance.

6) Dracula - Scarlett Parrish and Bram Stoker. Another Clandestine Classic, this time of one of my favourite novels of all time. The sex scenes in this merge seamlessly with the original text and never disappoint.

7) Naked - Eliza Redgold. This one was another surprise. I went in expecting a twist on the historical Lady Godiva story and was confronted with a heat level that went through the roof. Definitely hot and definitely readable.

8) Fifty Shades of Grey - E. L. James. Yes, I know what you're thinking. But it brought erotic romance back into the minds of the public, not to mention on the shelves of Asda, and I'm always one to back a trailblazer.

9) Gavin's Child - Caroline Cross. I had many ideas about Mills and Boon before I read this book, very few of them good. I was wrong. While it's still in some ways a product of its time, it introduced me into a world of romance I hadn't expected, and that's always a good thing. Plus it has a hero to die for.

10) A Fistful of Emmett - Jambrea Jo Jones. My introduction to modern-day erotica, not to mention to M/M cowboy erotica. What's not to love?

Book Description:

Flick Lindenwood, fresh from college, has returned home to the suburban haven of Green Valley, back to society…and the source of her heartbreak. Four years ago Elodie Hamilton savagely broke her heart, and Flick has no intention of letting her pretty ex get back under her skin. As far as she’s concerned, she and Elodie never happened.

But Elodie has other ideas.

Afraid to come out, Elodie chose to destroy her relationship with Flick rather than let her family know who she was. But now she wants to right the wrong she did—if she can only find the nerve, and if she can convince Flick to see past the pain she caused.

Excerpt:
The door of the Dodge Charger slammed behind her as Flick Lindenwood walked up the driveway to the house, dragging her wheeled suitcase after her.
It was exactly as she remembered. Pansies and tulips bloomed in the borders of the front garden, edging an elegantly mown lawn. In front of her stood the house, two stories rising behind a large veranda, a curtain twitching in one of the windows.
Before she reached the front door, it opened to reveal her mother. Flick let the handle of the case go and stepped forward to meet her in a hug.
“Felicity, darling! We’ve been waiting all morning.”
“Sorry, Mom. Traffic.”
Her mother stepped back, smiling, and looked her up and down. Flick bore the scrutiny patiently. She had a new haircut and outfit which had yet to receive maternal approval.
Apparently they did. Her mother pulled her back in for another hug. “You look lovely, darling. Oh, it’s so good to see you. I’ve got so many things to tell you—I’ve been organizing your graduation party, and then there’s the Saulters’ barbecue tomorrow, and—”
“All right, all right!” Flick broke in, laughing. “Let me get in first!”
She followed her mother into the entrance hall, noticing that the lounge door was open on her left. Through the doorway she could see her graduation photograph taking pride of place on the marble mantelpiece, blocking off part of the gold-edged mirror.

“Don’t be long,” Mrs. Lindenwood added airily as Flick made her way toward the staircase. “I want to hear everything. Have you met any nice girls?”
