Please share a little about yourself, your genres,
any other pen names you use.
I am a disability rights advocate and the Executive
Director of the North Country Center for Independence in upstate New York. I've
been legally blind since infancy, but this hasn't stopped me from achieving my
goals thanks to a mom who taught me to be independent and hardworking. My first
book is Wail of the Banshees, an urban fantasy ghost story. I am especially
pleased to have been able to dedicate this book to my mom who is truly my hero.
Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming
release.
In Wail of the Banshees, Veronika Kane, a twenty one
year old college student is murdered in the first scene. Veronika lives on as a
ghost and must find her way through a new world ruled by evil ghosts, where
slavery and tyranny are the norm. At first, Veronika is obsessed with getting
revenge on the man who killed her and undertakes a quest to help the
Philadelphia Police Department capture the killer. After some personal failures
and much suffering, Veronika leads a revolution to overthrow the evil Master of
shadow Philly. Wail of the Banshees features thrilling action on a scale
reminiscent of The Matrix.
When you’re not writing what do you do? Do you have
any hobbies or guilty pleasures?
My first love during free time is reading. I love to
read urban fantasy, science fiction, and epic fantasy. I also play video games
and watch some TV. My favorite show is Sons of Anarchy, which I started
watching for research on my third Ghost Wars Sage book. I am also a big tabletop
RPG player and GM. I'm also a dog lover, our yellow lab died recently and we
are currently looking for a new dog to join the family.
Is there a genre(s) that you’d like to write that
you haven’t tackled yet?
I love steampunk and epic fantasy. I'd love to write
in both genres in the future. I am currently in the early planning stages of a
paranormal steampunk on Mars series that I'm tentatively calling Paranormal
Frontiers.
Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is
your favorite and why?
Right now my favorite character that I've written is
named Alric Soulheim. Alric makes an appearance in book two of the Ghost Wars
Saga, Death Toll. He is a five centuries old troll, the king of his race who
are facing extinction. In book three of Ghost Wars Saga, Echoes of Madness,
Alric will be joining Veronika as a point of view character. I love Alric
because he is a survivor who will do whatever he needs to do to save his
people. Alric is a troll with a personal honor code but he isn't held back by
societal morals. Alric will personally be challenged when true love enters his
heart. Will doing anything to save his people come into conflict with
friendship and love? Stay tunes.
Veronika Kane is pretty much tied with Alric for a
spot in my heart. She is my first published protagonist, and she's personally
impressive. Veronika is courageous and determined. She has a strong moral code
and is stubborn. She's a great character.
If this book is part of a series…what is the next
book? Any details you can share?
Book two of the Ghost Wars Saga is called Death
Toll. Death Toll primarily takes part in the living city of Philadelphia and
see Veronika team up with detective Frank Cooper, a wizard named Nathaniel
Carter, and a were-ferret former CIA agent named Brianna Martin. Veronika and
team are up against a cult that is trying to bring the Great Old Ones back into
our world. The troll, Alric Soulheim will be making his first appearance, can
anyone imagine a troll wielding the Liberty Bell as a melee weapon against fire
giants? There's a free sample chapter of Death Toll in the back of all editions
of Wail of the Banshees. Also, be sure to visit my tour stop on Fang-tastic.com
on August 27th for the debut release of the 6,000 word prologue to Death Toll.
What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled
upcoming releases or works in progress?
Death Toll will hopefully be ready for release by
Christmas or by early spring 2014. I am hip deep in revision with my editor
Jaimee Finnegan. I am also about fifteen percent through the first draft of
Echoes of Madness, the third book in the Ghost Wars Saga.
What book are you reading now?
I just finished reading Seduced by Moonlight by
Laurell K Hamilton a few day ago and I'm currently reading Magic Rises by Ilona
Andrews. I'm a big fan of the Kate Daniels series.
What is in your to read pile?
I have the last three books of the Sign of the
Zodiac series and two books of the Iron Druid Chronicles series to complete. I
also have 2 books in the House of Night series and 3 in the Graywalker series
to complete. I am also eagerly awaiting Jim Butcher's first steampunk novels. Also
the sequel to Gods of Gotham should be out soon.

Short description
A murdered college student must help the Philadelphia Police Department track down the serial killer responsible for her death and then lead an improbable rebellion against the powers that be in the ghost realm of Limbo.
My name is Veronika Kane and dying, dying was just the beginning.
How was I supposed to know that getting smashed on my 21st birthday would lead me to becoming the 9th victim of a serial killer that’s been stalking Philadelphia’s streets for months? Now I’m a ghost and unlife is pretty scary. Reapers, wraiths, ghouls, gargoyles: all of the monsters that I thought were storybook characters are real! On top of it all, the powers that be in the ghost world want to enslave me and use me in their own diabolical plot to manipulate the people of the living world. Too bad I didn’t turn out to be the kind of ghost they wanted me to be, and I’m not about to let them turn me into one of their puppets. These ghosts are responsible for my murder and the murders of eight other women.
A rebellion is coming, and the ghosts that run this place are about to find out just how big a mistake they made when they had me killed.
My name is Veronika Kane and being murdered isn't the end of my story.
